    I don't!

I really don't understand gay pride parades. I don't remember the last time a whole bunch of straight people had a parade for their sexuality, formed an organization, and went around flailing their sexuality.

    Honestly, "gay pride"?

    Pride from my sexuality!

Hey! Great! Now let me go and make "straight pride" parades!

Well, maybe if straight people were treated like shit for thousands of years, forced to hide their feelings and often killed or ostracized if people realized their feelings, then straights, when it became relatively safe to be straight, might also want to celebrate. Part of the reason to celebrate is to reinforce for themselves that it is OK to be gay.

I have never seen a WASP parade, but I don't see why the Irish can't have parades.

If you want a parade for straights organize one. If you don't, don't. If you don't like theirs, don't watch.

I hate marching bands. But the really amazing thing is, I have the power - yes, I do - I have the power to avoid them.

So they are so unsure of their own lifestyle that they need to "re inforce" it?

Geez, ok we understand, they're gay...............so what's with the nonsense parades?

Next we can organize blond hair parades, or green eye parades.

Again, I don't see straight pride parades

Unsure? Did you read what I wrote? Are nations that celebrate their nations with parades unsure of their culture or nation? If a country has long been under the boot of another country - say some old Eastern Block country - and after the Soviet Union falls and they can be public about their independence and nation and have a parade, does this mean their are unsure of their own lifestyle? Sure, in a way. It is an affirmation that now they can be sure AND safe.
And your point. I don't see WASP parades either.

What is there to celebrate about homosexuality?

    It's a litmus test.

Gays go out and act out and carry on, but what they are really saying is...."Are we still "free" this year...yes? Oh good... wheew!"

Why do they go out flaunting their sexuality? What is there to be proud about?

I think it shows that gays are becoming headstrong and arrogant

It's simple, dude...nobody gets persecuted for being straight. Gay people have had to live in secret for centuries. It's only now they can live life openly, without too much fear of getting the shit beat out of them.

It's a way for them to let everyone know who they are, and be proud of it, and not feel the need to live in the closet.

Unless they are somehow superior, why are there parades?

What is there to celebrate? Why do they feel the need to waste our streets for their "parades"? Why are they "proud" of who they are...?

It's not about being superior. It's about not having to hide who they are.

You always see things in terms of superior/ inferior, you can't quite manage "just being" can you?

Are you proud of who you are?
If so what possible reason could you have?

If society doesn't want to accept them, why should we?

    "Just being" doesn't require parades.

Why can't they be gay without mass parades and huge egos?

Gay pride parades create an ego for gay people.

If "society" really didn't want to accept them then there'd have been some way found to stop them.
It's that simple: you are in a minority.

Ah but it does when you've had most of history not allowed to be at all.

They aren't, they're just gay with parades.
    Ego doesn't come into it.

An identity I'll grant, but not an ego.

And all those idiot liberals get in the way. Minority where? I'm not a minority in alot of the world. Especially not here in the grand ole lovely US South
OK, so that automatically translates into parades? Awesome.
It gives them an ego; it makes them feel special.

According to many homosexuals, people are "born" gay.

If this is so, then why celebrate it? Celebrating something you're born with is foolish. What kind of "pride" can you have in something you're born with? How ridiculous.

    Me either

They make a BIG deal about it in Toronto every yr. I don't understand why they have to close down the streets and prance around almost naked If you are gay and happy why do you have to flaunt it and make a big spectacle of the whole thing? Why not just carry on with your life like heterosexuals do.

I think all parades should be banned, even Santa Parades.

Yeah, imagine celebrating being Irish or English of American.

Imagine celebrating a certain religion or culture that you were born into.

    Those gays...man.
