is there such a thing has unconditional love? we are always telling ourselfs our kids love us for who we are, no i think they love us because of the things we do for them, cook, clean, look after them,

i think mums and dads can have unconditional love but i dont think anyone else can, i mean your partner will not love you anymore if you stabbed him, or cheated on him/her?

    so what is unconditional love

Love is what you make of it, Like DESCARTES "Cognito ergo sum". I think therefore I am, If you think you are in love, you will be to a degree.
It's what you make of it.
But as for kids, I've made it clear to my mother, that she's perfectly welcome to stop looking after me any time she feels like it. I'll either learn to survive or I won't.

I voted yes. There is a certain person I love, that I'll always love, regardless of status or ability or whatever.

I don't think you should love someone, just because you feel obligated to.

That is what I think is happening when people say things like, "I can't stand you, and I severely dislike you, but I'll always love you."

Did I say that? I don't have to love anyone; there are certain family members of mine which I despise.

Edit: Steve, why do you have "pure blooded" as your heading?

Yes I think it exists. Not between spouses or partners, unless their bond is deeper than that of just lovers. You can still love someone even though they are annoying or if you don't enjoy their company. There are somethings you can force because of obligation, but I don't think love is one of those things. It just is or isn't (its more complicated than that, but still...)

You don't know what you have till it's gone.

But you can accept it's gone rather easily.

No, I never said you did.

Because I'm as pure blooded as anyone else on this Earth.
Especially if you are Christian and believe in Adam and Eve.

What if your wive knifed you kids in front of your eyes then walked towards you with an evil grin on her face, and proclaims that she has become an atheist and that she believes that all Semites are evil and need to be slaughtered like the filthy pigs they are. Then she spits you in the face and kicks you in the nuts and walks away.

Would you still love her ?

I always tought love was a rather egoistical feeling you love someone and hopefully they love you back.
However if that person doesn't love you back you know love isn't unconditional and sometimes I simple love my girl because she loves me.

I voted love is what you make of it

You could have a change of heart, if something similar is done by one of your children.

Again, Love is what you make of it.

I think its possible. People have put their lives on the line and done really stupid things when in love or loving someone.

I would think many parents would give up their lives for their kids, I know I would if I had children.
