It (may) represent the leading edge of the obesity epidemic. If so, women's life expectancy could decline broadly across the United States in coming years, ending a nearly unbroken rise that dates to the mid-1800s.

This is really noticeable in my area. Everywhere you look, an overweight woman with a comparatively thin man.
What the article doesn't take into account is the large number of women sitting in an office chair all week long. I'd say it's a given that mothering is more labor intensive than secretary work.
