Why is it that both codebooks and the online tutorials insist on making code so hard to read?

The text is always nice and clear but the all important code tends to be smaller, fainter and scrawnier?

Just look at the Python site.
    http://docs.python.org/tut/node4.html#SECTION004110000000000000000
Compare the clarity of the text with the obscurity of the code!
Some idiot has sized it at 90%!
I changed the css to 100% and Bold and suddenly it was readable!

    What's wrong with these people?

If you're using firefox, one trick is to hold down the ctrl button, and dial the scroll wheel on your mouse.

I think you may need glasses Igor or a better monitor...

Only because they have made the text so big (far bigger than necessary).

My point is why have they made the all important code smaller than the text when it's the code which needs to be read accurately?

And I do find that after reading about half way through my eyes do start to ache.

I think it's more to do with your setup than the website - perfectly readable to me!

Use the ctrl-mousewheel as suggested above.

That site is readable for me, without my text size turned way up.

But I know what you mean. One time I read an online c++ article and all the equals signs looked like minus signs. You can imagine the confusion.
