Why is the human world obsessed with where they came from? Where everything came from!

Could you imagine if we just simply stopped searching for this answer? It's highly likely that if we ever do find the correct answer it will mean virtually nothing for the present. If the debate and effort of origins of the past went into perfection of the future...we'd be much better off.

Because we care about knowledge. Knowledge is power.

Better directed endeavors would render better results. Wouldn't bettering our present lives be the intention of our purpose? Or is devaluing our quality of life for knowledge more valuable?

They aren't mutually exclusive.

It's not humans who are obsessed with this, it's nature itself.

Please explain DeepThought. I've never heard of a dog looking for her parents.

Have you heard of a pigeon which finds its way home?

Same thing.

Curiosity, searching for truth and imagination are reasons we seek things out we don't understand.

I second the opinion that we should, instead of searching for facts about the past, be devoting time and effort into improving the future :D

Not caring about origins? This from an Israeli? Tell me again, was it 2000 years ago or 5000 years ago that God gave you Palestine?

What do you think of the Jews only right of return that gives "original" Jews from Russia, Europe and the US "rights" to land in Palestine, while Palestinians who are living there are being bombed for daring to presume that their 5000 plus years of continuous inhabitance gives them rights to their lands?

And once again, what is the basis for Jews making a "state" in Palestine? A Jewish state? In a land where only 7% of the inhabitants were Jewish before the rest poured in from the rest of the world and murdered Palestinians and stole their land? Could it be a false notion of... origins?

There is no obsession. Scientists develop theories and the theist go full force against it.. that's what's happening.
Theists obsess with scientific findings about our origins.

If we embraced the defeatist attitude, we'd still be living in caves.

You ARE trolling. You do realize that, don't you?

I think this focus on origins has to do with the big questions - Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we going?

To make sense and use of our present life, to be able to choose to act in one way and not in another we have to have some answers to those questions.

We can't really "live for the moment", as much as some want to. The results of our actions always catch up with us, sooner or later. And then we sometimes reflect on our actions, the intentions behind them, the results of those actions in the present and in the future.
