About a year and a half ago I discovered Sciforums. Several sleepless days later I declared the site a mind sucking waste of time and requested to be banned (which I was for one year). I resisted the temptation to sock puppet, but I could not wait to get back on. Others seem to to battle almost chemical addiction to posting. Whatever happened to Draqon? Notice Reiku hasn't been around? SAM, well she's a lifer... Point is, why are you here? What do you get out of this endless debate?
I get lots of mental exercise. You are forced to really think. And you are usually bumping your head up against someone smarter than yourself. I swear my IQ has jumped from like 55 to about 90 since I've been a member.
For me it's just a time-killer. A way to spend a few minutes here and there when nothing important is going on.
I'm primarily here to laugh, and to vent my stress by creating intelligent discussion against idiots. That, and you can always find out what crazy shit the yanks do here, first before it hits the news, in the morning in Australia.
For me, the goal of being in this site is twofold. I wish to be a voice of oppressed people throughout the world, specifically the 1.7 or so billion Muslims of the world whom I represent. The Western world can learn by understanding a the viewpoints and political aspirations of 25% of mankind. I also wish to promote understanding among Western people and Muslims. I want to convince people that invasions of countries in the Muslim World are not in the best interest of Western people and peace is more beneficial for all of us. It's an uphill battle, but I believe that slowly I can make a difference. I know that injustice will not end overnight and my struggle may last hundreds of years, but I wish for a better world for my people. Sorry for being political, but it is the reason I am here.
I originally joined to participate in the scientific forum. But then I saw spock fighting anti-Israel / anti-Jewish propaganda thread after thread and I couldn't help myself.
I get to debate with people from every corner of the globe whenever I choose, share information, gather information. Sciforums is good for many things even if its just something to do for an hour in your spare time. peace.
