Download a pop up killer. It is useful when you browse porn websites. Also Alt - F4 kills it pretty quickly.

I use OmniWeb, an OS X only web browser that prevents unrequested pop-up windows, so I never see pop up ads. I hate spam email though.

For spam email if you threaten to take them to court they stop sending...usually.

My computer is slow, doesn't need any help from pop-ups, they are by far the most annoying thing for me. See with Spam all you have to do is check off the little box next to the E-Mail without having to read it, far less hassle for me.

Pop ups and spam are the scounge of the internet. It was so bad I left a forum because of it. What can I say, they were more interested in the ads than they were their own members. There were countless complaints and suggestions to make it easier on the reader but that was always ignored. I had finally had enough.

Somehow, I have gotten spam from somewhere. Either my address has been sold or some other method has been used. Anyway it is a porn site. The unsubscribe address is a bad link. So I went through the tools section and marked ignore and delete. Then they started using different addresses to send the same messages. Grrrrr. I do not need to go to porn sites and resent this kind of intrusion. Sooner or later they will get the idea as there is some way they are able to tell when I have deleted their messages to know when to change names and addresses.

I was using a spyware program but it has problems with smileys and other stuff on sites such as this one.

Download Opera. 6.03 works quite well for me.

You can kill pop-ups under the "preferences" section. And if you want, you can turn them back on fast.

Added bonus, it's faster than Internet Exploiter. Waaaaaay faster, and you can do more with it in terms of choosing when to load images.

If you have a network UNIX shell like I do.
KILL -1 -1 works for me

That idea is silly to boot and ain't gonna work.

Bout 75% of the time the e-mail addresses are spoofed (unless it is "legal" SPAM, like advertisements you might get from Yahoo).

If they do have a "remove me from list", or "complaint" link, or address of some kind, bout 80% of the time the link is invalid, and if something does get sent out, about 80% of the time no one checks that stuff. In fact going to a supposed remove link could be a link to sign you up on another SPAM list.

    Conversion

    75% = 3/4
    80% = 4/5

There are mailing SPAM list, domain shoots, all kinds of things.

I don't get much SPAM. I don't give my e-mail address out to companies very often, and if I do, it is usually my hotmail address (I save my broadband accounts for important stuff like talking with friends)

I have my junk filter on low.

To me pop-up ads are much more annoying. SPAM you just hit yer delete key, or a click of the mouse. Pops happen when you don't expect them, you have to switch windows, close them, and look at them, even if only momentarily while you try to close it (you can delete a mail message before viewing it).

The worst are those new freakin' popups that move around and dance in the middle of the page, "look at me! look at me!" Absolutely annoying.

    Yes, I'll agree on that.

You have to be active in the window to close it using alt+4 (that means if your mouse last targeted another window, you'll close that instead)

The pops are so damn big, you have to drag your mouse all the way to the upper right hand corner to hit the X

Just as much of a pain to close it from your taskbar.

This is of course, assuming you are using Windows.

For Cthulhu's sake, NEVER request to be taken off their mailing list!

They do it, and instantly know that "they've got a live one".

So they send off your addy to more and more people.

Note that little of this is done by actual humans.

For those of you who don';t have firewalls (and for those who do as well) get yourself adaware 5.8 and the latest ref updates from Lavasoft (just google it).

Handy little tool for getting rid of the spyware from your pc... which is 80% of the time exactly how those annoying spam emails find their way to you in the first place.

Usually those popups leave a button on the task bar on the bottom. I usually right mouse click it and then close it before it ever opens. Saves accidently closing a window you are using

Actually, most SPAM is not sent manually, but rather is done through automated systems and mailing lists type action.
