I've seen people at airports banging away on the keyboards of portable computers. One person did it long enough where I finally had to move to get away from the clacking. Would piezoelectric materials underneath the keys help extend battery life? Or is it built into them already?

I searched piezoelectric and found that the output is in milliwatts but that person I had to move away from would of had those millis adding up.

The keyboard hardly uses any juice at all. It's the processes being performed by the CPU, the LCD screen/backlight, and the video card.

As a point of reference, if you buy a wireless keyboard, it will run for several months on a couple of AA batteries......and those things don't hold but a measly 2000-3000 mAh each.

Try running a desktop gfx card in a laptop for more than 45min on idle. Near to impossible.

Maybe we should get a charger under the keyboard, so as one types, he is charging the battery...
