I recently found some MP4 (MPEG-4 Movie) videos and added them to my iTunes library. However, when I go to synchronize the new MP4 videos, I get a message telling me that the file type is unsupported by my iPod and cannot be added to it. Now, since I had purchased a movie from iTunes before, I checked to see what kind of a file type it was. iTunes movie file extensions are classified as M4V (MPEG-4 Video File). I hear that people can add MP4 files to their iPods, but for some reason, I cannot.

Oh yes, and my iPod is a 3rd Generation Nano, if that helps.

I'm hazarding a guess before researching but could it be DRM? (Digital Rights Media) could one format hold copyright protection over the other format?

I think I've just figured it out, each iPod will only allow certain uniquely formatted files to be synchronized.

I know! But of coarse, Apple had to introduce a new variable to profit off of. Look, if we have videos, we should be able to add them, right? :bugeye:
