I was going to say that meat tends to get used for what we eat while flesh doesn't.

Or maybe...the flesh is impure and evil...keep those women at bay with a long stick...

While meat is God's gift to man...And he commandeth "go forth and eat the animals!"

Yeah, but you'd also say horseflesh.
When I'm filleting fish I refer to it as flesh.

Wouldn't you rather say meat when referring to animal flesh ?

Meat is an euphemism for flesh; because we eat it.

I use the term in the flesh for nakedness.
I usually use meat for flesh I'm about to eat.
Sorry, that's a bit ambiguous but I'll live with it.

Would cooked human flesh be called meat ?

Depends if it's in a sandwich or not.

So basically flesh describes tissues of living animals, while meat describes dead animal tissues meant for consumption ?

No, I still think they're interchangeable.

    I got it!

    Meat rhymes with feet...

    and flesh rhymes with mesh...

The reason for starting this thread was that I had the impression that the word "flesh" was reserved for humans.

The term " a good judge of horseflesh" is common in horesracing parlance.

Hmm so both words are used in the exact same circumstances ? Why ?

Actually, I think you would use flesh more for live or dead'flesh' than you would use meat.
To me, meat implies dead flesh but I'm certainly not beyond saying something like"That's a fine meaty arse she's got there!"

Couldn't you say..."that's a fleshy arse she's got there" too?

    Of course.

Edit, nice that you've picked up the correct spelling of arse.
The first American to do so, bravo!
