Everybody says it like it's a bad thing, I don't see what's wrong though.

It's efficient, it's stable, and it's final. I think as long as the government doesn't abuse it's power, I don't mind them having alot of power. Sometimes politics is hindering.

The government would also have the ability to ensure social order, balance, etc, without liberals crying for the legalization of every damn thing. It'd be a surefire way to ensure that society doesn't degenerate.

    I don't understand, what's wrong with totalitarianism?

Just how many countries are actually run that way today? How many countries are doing very well with that type of government? How about the people who live in those countries, do you really think they have that great of lives? And those that run those countries, where do they go to have fun, play and vacation? To often only the few at the top get to really enjoy life as it should be while everyone else suffers from their rule.

That's because the people at the top are usually corrupt. With good people at the top, a totalitarian state would be better than a democracy.

Alrighty then, execute yourself for posting in the "Free Thoughts" section of this forum, as would surely happen in a totalitarian world, and get back to us on how you feel.

It could spark an intelligent debate.

thats exactly the problem all governments abuse their power if they are given too much.
in my opinion the ideal system is that with a benevolant dictator, but that is highly unrealistic.

Totalitarianism seeks to control the populace in all ways. It seeks to dictate what people can do in private (in fact, there is no "private" in a totalitarian system - everything is the business of the state). It seeks to tell people what they can and cannot think.

You think that's a good thing, do you?

I suggest you go and live in North Korea or Zimbabwe for a while.

Who watches the watchers? Totalitarian systems have a "top" where the people in charge, good or bad, are totally unaccountable for their actions.

    Ya have to ask ?
Everything is controlled, people will then find ways to exploit the system, and as a result we'll all be screwed over when those people make it to the top.

Power corrupts, and Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Thats why totalitarianism is bad, because It's close to absolute power as one gets.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Indeed James R. Democracy, and the vote is what watches the people at the top, good or bad. Sometimes we screw up, and the wrong people get there, but soon enough they get removed.

It's efficiency isn't a good thing. Suppose you get a psychopath in charge?

    At what price ?

How much of your freedom are you willing to give for your security ?

It's also only efficient for some people, not others.

Efficiency is a good thing, if it's used for good reasons.

What makes you so sure the guy at the top is going to be good? Or his successor? Or his successor's successor? etc.

We can have systems in place

We can also have crazy people immobilized in straitjackets, making it more difficult for them to register in internet forums. Think of the efficiency! Less useless data entered by users means less electricity wasted relaying it.
