Word winds me up...

I have two issues with word first when you change the default dictionary to English UK it never sticks, why?

Also, when you do a document search you get a massive box come up that gets in the way of your document. Surely, a much better solution to this is for a search bar to come up at the bottom of the screen. Is there anyway of doing something like this?
