View Full Version : North Korean and space
North Korea had launched quite a few rockets into space as well as put satellites into orbit...but how far has the Country behind the Asian iron curtain progressed in space technology. Can it deliver nuclear ICBM to USA? Can it put a man to space? What is the progress of North Korean space forces?
Currently known project of North Korea is: Paektusan I (Taepodong-1)

It is a two stage missile with Nodong as the first stage and scud variant as second stage (Hwasŏng-5/6)

Hum,
it is possible it has the home grown technology already.
However, the implementation would be quite costly - politically and financially.
The bottom line is that China would not want an arms race on its border.
China has an arms race on its border, Russia having one cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and another one called Svobodny built in far East Russia, North Korea building rockets secretly, Japan launching high tech probes to asteroids as well as missions to ISS, India launching nuclear ICBMS as well as space rockets with satellites, and Pakistan not lacking behind with nuclear bomb...all around China, the mushrooms are popping.

Hum,
I would tend to disagree.
As far as i know Chinese Russian relations are good. There are no border guards.
Although the cosmodromes are military, they are mainly used for space based launches.
North Korea does not have to build rockets secretly. Being a independent country, international law allows them to have an army and space based ambitions.
India has been a nuclear power for many years and it too is allowed space based ambitions.
Pakistan is however problematic - being outside of Chinese influence and aligned towards the western powers.

Response to OP.
They also have the Taepondong-2 missile system which they tested by firing over Japan and into the sea.
How undiplomatic can you get? As if to say "Yup - it goes far enough! No need for another test!" and then they go and detonate a nuke underground.
They have little to no real technology. I doubt they could put a man on the moon or build an ICBM.

I am having a hard time believing such a test was conducted...

Yes, there is a thread about it here somewhere...
(it should be said that the missile was not fired over japan, but into the Sea of Japan / East sea)

thats more believable. :p As the sea of Japan includes North Korean territory and neutral territories.
