It looks like the Pleiades, I think... let me check (and I'll check spelling while I'm at it)

No, not the Pleiades. Maybe the Great Nebula in Orion?

No... I can't shake the feeling I've seen it before. I'll keep looking - it's surely a Messier object.

Anyway, it appears to be a superb long-exposure image of a lovely open star cluster, including a fair amount of dust and nebulosity.

(Like "stellar nursery", maybe?)

Yeah,
I recognised it.
i also remembered i bloged the story about it being presented at the 2006 General Assembly of the IAU in Prague.
