"Increased turbulence and storms first observed on Jupiter more than two years ago are still raging, according to astronomers from the University of California, Berkeley, and the W. M. Keck Observatory in Hawaii, who snapped high-resolution pictures of the planet earlier this month."

Is it possible the comet impacts some time back has created some instabilities in Jupiter's crust which is releasing a lot of material into the atmosphere?

Funny that the religion folks haven't come up with the "sign of the trinity" or something. ;)

Jupiter's climate does seem to change periodically;

I don't think it is anything to do with the comet impact, as Jupiter doesn't really have a crust (instead it seems to have a ocean of liquid metallic hydrogen, with what might be a rocky core at incredible pressures and temperatures way below that).
Blob what causes these red spots other than the winds ? Why are they red ?

Why are they red ?
I don't really know.
But i guess they could be upwellings of gas from deeper in the atmosphere.

google it. :p
Jupiter's newest "blemish (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2008/05/080523-jupiter-spot-photo.html)" used to be a white oval-shaped storm but turned brick red as its clouds rose and reacted to solar UV radiation.
Since the spots come and go, I wonder what the max number of spots has been. Is 3 the most recorded?

Odd. I seem to recall the red spot being a huge depression in the clouds opening up a window into a lower layer.
Maybe I'm thinking of some other feature.
