this isn't directed at anyone, but is just a question on its own.

Should we discourage naivety ? Or let them take the fall on their own ?
Are we at risk of installing a potentially damaging cynicism.

Personally I say, fuck the naive ones, and let them take the fall on their own.

Seriously though. I think we should point out their naivety in hopes that they see it too.
If they don't there is little you can do about it anyway.

Yeah, and then it usually all turns out like this:

Lucy: You know what your problem is, Charlie Brown?
Charlie: No, I don't. What is my problem?
Lucy: Your problem, Charlie Brown, is that you are you.
Charlie: So what can I do about it?
Lucy: I don't pretend to have a solution, I am merely pointing out the problem.

It is misleading to "point out" other people's naivete, while not offering them coherent and actionable instructions on how to overcome it.

Get a life, get real, deal with, get over it, don't be so naive, grow up - this is what the "naive" get told. But for the most part, none of those telling them so have the faintest idea how to go about "getting a life", "growing up" and all that.

Life is a process; there is no quick fix; only experience.

Let the naive enjoy their naivity while it lasts.

Yes, the world is a happy place, for those of us in our comfy little chairs, and our comfy little rooms, in our comfy little countries. We can safely ignore the screams of the dying ,as we munch on our food. We can safely bitch about the price of oil, while we vote for those that make it higher. The world is so happy, that people love each other, and no one judged each other on race or religion, after all, if we're so happy , what have we got to judge about ?.

Who is to say what is naive? Would we not be little presumptuous to think we know better? Of course, it depends entirely on the circumstances. What one person sees as naive the other may think as their own perspective. I think it gets a little arrogant when people start telling each other how to think.

Innocence has far more charm than naivete (purity vs lack of experience or sophistication). Wisen them, life will do the rest and they'll remember ones words...eventually

Hmm I wasn't referring to anything like that. I just meant pointing out why they are naive about the subject at hand. Explaining why such and so.
Seems reasonable to me. Many people appreciate it, some get irritable.

    SOMEONE is naive.
There are plenty of places people don't have it as good as you. Ask them if they think the world is a happy place.

I disagree. Poor people can be happy too...

    The poor africans are happy.

    The oppressed chinese are happy.

The hard working japanese are happy.

The easy going germans are happy.
