Over on the threads about the nature light, mass and relativity several people mentioned virtual photons. Quite rightly so others where highly skeptical about the nature of virtual phtons and their behaviour as force carriers. The theory that deals with this is called Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and is a modification of Quantum Mechanics by Relativity. It stemmed out of work on radioactive decay (the thread on radiation in General Science prompted me to re-invetigate this) and won Richard Feynman his Nobel Prize.
