just Imagine......if kids come out fully grown. My son just asked me to imagine a world where kids came out fully grown, knew how to talk, walk, and toilet themselves, and even dress themselves, so i did. And my answer was: NO breastfeeds at 2 in the morning NO nappy changes at 2 in the morning NO sleepless nights NO colic NO first day at school NO childhood injections how perfect would life be. I guess i liked watching my children grow into the people they are now, but it wasnt always easy and sometimes you have to think (well you perants do anyway) oh why cant you feed yourselve? or....why cant you take yourself to school? i know they are not nice thouhgts but has most perants will testifie they do say it, or things like it.
Oh yeah and NO sticking the middle fingure up to a old lady who wants to have a peek at your new addition, (which happened to me) my son stuck his middle fingure up and blew a raspberry in her face!
On a serious note, such a thing would drastically alter the human species as a whole. Think about it. If children were born fully functioning (if perhaps smaller than full-grown size) then what need would there be for such intense social interactions? The child would not need to love its mother. Nor vice versa. In fact, most likely would not. The child might well predate the mother as some spiders and other animals do. An easy first meal. The repercussions of such a simple idea are huge. They range from simple things such as how to attract a mate to huge things such as human society at large. Human civilization and human intelligence would be impossible without our extended period of neoteny. No. I'd much prefer getting up in the middle of the night to wipe a runny nose (or ass as the case might be.) In fact, I look forward to it.
I did raise a kitten whose mother didn't have enough milk for all her brood. But, yes, raising children isn't all fun and games. But, it is what it is. And I look forward to it. I even look forward to regretting it.
I had a hard enough time bonding with my kids when they were born. I don't see a reason to care for a fully functioning baby. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
