Where petrol cost less than a dollar ? Where Coke and Pepsi cost around a dollar ? Where you could get good technical service ? When you were blissfully unaware of the problems of the world ? I can, for all.. I can't say that i want to remain blissfully ignorant though.
I was in SOVIET SOCIALISTIC RUSSIA at the time ... were petrol did cost less than a dollar...were we did no drink chemical c**p like pepsi and cola...were technical service was free to comrades of the socialistic country.
I haven't driven since 1999...the last time i bought gas it was $.98 a gallon. Those were the days...
i remember the "gas wars" here locally where gasoline was 25 cents a gallon 10 cents. this is still available. you just need to know where to look. any 8 year old is blissfully unaware of the problems of the world.

I was never unaware of problems of the world...I always had to do something...either clean the floor...wipe the wood surfaces and appliances...wash the dishes...assemble everything neatly...go work on a dacha (plantation) by picking bugs out of potatoes...always constant work. War started in Chechnya? yeah? well...I had more pressing issues...I had to finish cooking everything and clean the floor, do homework, run to the store, and do other stuff around house before my grandma came home. president was killed? allright than...but before I get a chance to hear more...I had to go bike 10 miles to the plantation...work there picking potatoes, get back to meet grandmother from church, go carry heavy bags from her friends to her other friends...than run back home to clean everything and than its time to sleep because I am exhausted. Aliens have been discovered on Mars? awesome...except I'll never get to hear about them...daily chores around house and around the city, running like a maid from door to door...Ill never get to hear about them.

In Venezuela the gas is only 12 cents per gallon, cokes are only 50 cents but the techncal service is lacking but the price is right.
Aren't you talking about the period in history when we all thought we would be nuked? It can't be before this time as that would have been the second world war. Things are the same as they have always been it just seems more because back in the days you are talking about we would only hear of it in a few news broadcasts a day. Today we could be absorbed in it 24 hours a day.
I remember when you pulled into a gas station and got two dollars worth of gas and the attendant checked your oil and tire pressure and washed all the car's windows. You even got a free glass or dish towel with the purchase. I remember when a loaf of bread cost a dime and Coke was seven cents for a small glass bottle. I remember the milk man delivering milk to the house and the bakery man delivering bread and cupcakes. Those were the good old days. Or were they? I also remember the Mother's March of Dimes where mothers marched door to door collecting money to fight Polio. I remember how scared parents were any time a child complained of leg pains. I remember the mumps and whooping cough and measles parties. I remember cars with no seat belts where a minor accident could be a fatal one. I remember homes with no air conditioning and with heating systems that left half the house cold in winter. I remember frost on the inside of windows in winter and people shoveling driveways because there were no snow blowers. Sure the good old days were good but they were also not so good. If we want to be honest with ourselves we have to remember them as they were not as we wish they had been.
But the days that I talked about , were only (for me) about 4 years ago. We had everything else. And in Singapore, coke cost 80 cents per can.. But I understand, you are older than me, so your time would be different.
Oh wow, ice on the in side of the windows. I remember that. Thank goodness for electric blankets. The lowest I remember gas is at $.056 gallon. My favorite good ol days memories revolve around vending machines. Getting a Pez out of the machine you had to pull on. Pulling a coke in a glass bottle out of those coolers. And back home we still have a gas station where the guy washes your window and checks your oil as he pumps gas. His name is Chuck, and I bet when he retires, that's it. LoL I actually remember this too. I was just a little kid of course. Today there is no service at all. Even if you have a problem at the pump they buzz you through an intercom outside lol. I also remember walking a pretty long way to school. There were hardly any school buses. Today they bus the kids a few blocks. I also remember going to the corner store and buying 10cent jumbo freezies and 25cent chocolate bars.
