    Anyone been to Nepal?

I plan to go there on a 20 day hike through the forests and mountains sometime next year after my uni exams, that is late Summer, early Autumn.

I'd like to hear about your impressions and experiences - from visiting temples to buying food and getting around.

    Thanks!

Ok, I guess I'll write a bit now. I dont want anybody get misimpression
about Nepal. Anyway, if you have time, pls visit:

    http://wikitravel.org/en/Nepal

there you can find a bit guidance on Nepal.

When I left Nepal, there was a bomb blast (I do not want to hide this
fact), but Nepal isnt at all like Pakistan or Iraq. The border between
Nepal and India is a dangerous place, but overall Nepal is about Himalaya
and beautiful culture. I spent one week in Bhaktapur (to do my project
work) and few days in other cities. Its all peace & harmony

Every morning when I wake up, I heard religious music (dunno
Hindu or Buddha). It's played by people who routinely walk from
temple to temple every morning. I record it, if I have time I'll
upload it in youtube, maybe next week.

Nepal is among the poorest country in the world, but on the other side you
can find everything cheap there (if you love shopping!). You can find hotel
from 2€ per night. I was there in a 5€/night room, I'll upload the pic also
later when I have time. It isnt bad at all.

About eating, you can find very nice food in good restaurant or hotel and
still very cheap. Ok cheap is something very relative. But for example,
10 pcs of momo (u should try this, I luuuuuvvvvv it!), is only 90
cent (price in good restaurant). With 3 euro u can eat like a king!

If you walk in Nepal, at least every 50 meters u can find temple. In fact,
I heard there are more temple than people in Nepal (not sure though).

If you love trekking, for sure this is the perfect place, we are talking
about Everest! I didnt have chance to go trekking though, I hope
    one day I can.

If you dont like trekking, you can also enjoy its beautiful view from the
foot of the mountain like from Pokhara or Lukla. There are some lakes at
Pokhara, with Everest as a background. Anyway dont go around August/Sept
(like I did) because it was raining a lot.

If you come to see festival, you should come around october. Every year
there is 15 days of folk festival in October. When I was there I also got
a chance to watch gaijatra festival. Its in the end of August. They have
too many festival in a year!

Some video of Bhaktapur Nepal which I found in youtube, sorry I havent
have time to put my own video:

Ookkkk I gotta take care of many things now, later Orleander.

    You're welcome Avatar, Orleander.

    Which airways you select?

I check just now, there is no direct
    flight from Riga to Kathmandu.

If you go first from Riga to Frankfurt by airBaltic next July, it will
cost you LVL 116 or €162 (including tax).

From Frankfurt you can use Qatar Airways. I went this year with
Qatar, Frankfurt - Kathmandu costs me €857.*

In total, it will cost you around €1020 or $1500. So $1100 cheaper

*) if you book earlier you might get around €750 - 800 (Frankfurt - Kathmandu).

I realised I didn't write it completely, so:

    * Riga - Frankfurt - Riga : ~ €162 (By Airbaltic)
    * Frankfurt - Doha - Kathmandu - Doha - Frankfurt: ~ €850 (by Qatar)

    So, total: €1,019

This is completely off topic but I remember this one incident when I used to run my take-away. I used to get these 2 guys coming in every night and they were always completely stoned. One night I asked one if he could get me some Nepalese hash, temple balls to be precise, and he said sure, I'll get you some right now. I said, that's great, and couldn't believe my luck. Anyway, he goes out to the street, hails a black cab and asks the cabbie to take him to Nepal! The cabbie asks him where that is and the guy says, you know, Nepal near India; the cabbie tells him to fuck off. It really was hilarious.

Many people don't know geography (me too). From around
200 countries in the world, I can only locate several of them; just
the ones that are constantly on the headline news. Sometimes I
dont even know that this or that is a country.

I attach here the flight offer which I got when I fly to Nepal.
As you can see here, Avatar, €857 was roundtrip cost. If you are
interested you can contact that travel agent, there is a contact
    address/email on the paper.

Of course geographically to go from your country to Nepal is
closer if you go from Moscow (for example), but there is no
Qatar airways from there to Nepal. Why Qatar? Because it is the
cheapest international flight from Europe to Nepal. If I take
Lufthansa from Germany to Nepal for example, I should also pay
more than €2000. Anyway, I dont know whether you have to apply
for visa or not to enter Germany.

Well, if you decided to visit Nepal, I wish you a nice journey
