As I promised Orleander.. Roadkills and other dead animals.

    Roadkills
Topleft: Decapitated butterfly found while hiking on holiday in Sweden.
Topright: Dead Badger, found on the same hike. The smell was sickening btw.
Bottomleft: A dragonfly that decided to crash into my car, decapitated.
    Bottomright: A stepped-on(?) bumblebee.

    Deaths 1
Topleft: Two dead Shrews, found on a walk.
Topright: Dead baby Blackbird, taken from the nest by a Magpie and left on the hot pavement.
Bottomleft: Dead Song thrush, flew itself to death against my home window.
    Bottomright: Dead Seagull.

    Deaths 2
Topleft & Topright: Dead dried out toad, crisped by the sun.
Bottomleft & Bottomright: A live toad but not far from death. Looks like it is or was infected with some kind of parasite (for the eggs see inset). I think the parasite worked their way to the in- or outside through the poor toads nostrils. One of the saddest things I ever seen..

    Nikon Coolpix 8700 http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Nikon/nikon_cp8700.asp
It cost 800 euro when I bought it but it has been taken out of production now I think. You can still buy second hand ones for around 200-250 euro or so.
The newer model (Nikon 8800) isn't as good at macro.

Yep, it must be dead (or dying). She prefers flattened frogs (the ones that cars have driven over a couple of times and then left to dry on the hot pavement).

I do lots of country miles driving. The amount of road kill is sickening.
Tonight I did a two hour drive home at dusk through the S.E Australian wilderness.
I managed to dodge a succession of wallabies, roos, possums and small marsupials( antechinus, bandicoots) I nearly mashed a bat also.

I hate it, I see these exquisite creatures like red necked wallabies splattered..just going about there business then Bang!

It can be really hard to miss a wombat or roo if they come flying out of the scrub but some slow moving things like blue tongue lizards should never be hit, yet there are thousands killed.

Recently, I had to pounce on the brakes for a group of Red Deer as they jumped from the bushes.. I missed the last one by a hair. They are really a lot big bigger then you'd think..

Inzomnia, click the link below to see what I do with the camera. Then you can decide whether you still feel it's too expensive

What's the last thing that passes through a Dragonfly's mind when he hits your windscreen at 100kmh?

    His arse.
