seriously, they didnt need to call the police, and to put him on the sex offenders register thats awful, what if it was just a misunderstanding and he actually made a mistake? he is now on that register for a mistake

they shouldve just left the guy alone!

Well, obviously, my cultural comparisons are askew. In the United States, the Sex Offender Registries are a difficult idea that tend to do more for ill-intended folks looking to make themselves feel better at others' expense. Frequently, we will hear about a protest, a community in an uproar because a convicted sex offender is moving to the neighborhood. They'll haul the guy into court. Cities near Seattle have even attempted to rezone offenders out of town. In Miami, offenders were (are?) living under a bridge because that's about the only place left for them. I mean, really ... if he was in Miami, he'd be living under a bridge now. Because he f@cked his bicycle.

I don't see the difference between sofa cushions, a bicycle, or a godforsaken apple pie. I mean, this is comedy in the United States, not a registerable sex offense. Does this have something to do with rules at hostels?

Most of the hostels listed are privately owned and the majority are family run. They are not just youth hostels - they cater for all ages, and provide a good standard of hostel style accommodation at a fair price in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They have a minimum of rules and no membership is required. The hostels are open, and their facilities are available, all day. Most hostels are open all year round, but in winter it is advisable to check with the hostel first

I'm just puzzled how it came to be a breach of peace. Is it because it was a bicycle? Or does anyone caught in the act of wanking face the Sex Offender Registry?

So? If he was in his own home he can screw as many bikes, mopeds or killacycles as he wants. But this was a hostel.

Behind a locked door, ... so I don't see how this was considered breach of the peace as a master key was used to enter the room. That conviction seems unfair to me. If they had found him shagging a woman, would they have called the Police? I bet not, so the addition of an inanimate object actually adds nothing to the weight of prosecution.

I'm just curious....where exactly do you put "it" when your shagging a bicycle? I hope he didn't get it stuck in the chain...that could be painful.

Maybe the bicycle had a gel seat. Seriously, those gel mouse pads with the lycra or whatever on the wrist mount ...

No, seriously, that's about the nearest I can figure. And, to be honest, I'm trying to not dwell on it.

What's really amazing about that story is, that if I'm reading it right, it was a public defender who ... uh ... got him off.

    (Heh ... heh-heh.)

Anyway, I'll raise a glass to PDs.

I'm going to speculate here: It's Scotland.

More specifically, I know nothing about the law in Scotland. One of the things I love about the U.S. is that up to a point, you can explain nearly anything away.

Maybe it's not so in Her Majesty's realm. Oh, hey, does this count as an offense against the Queen? That would be awesome.

And think about it ... if he plays this one right, he could become a desired item on the market. I mean, really ....

    Mary: Ooh, he's cute!

Jane: (giggles) Careful. He's on the Registry.

Mary: (recoils) Eww! What is it with men?

Jane: Lighten up. He got busted for f@cking a bicycle.

    Mary: What?!

    Jane: Really! Seriously.

Mary: (raises eyebrow thoughtfully) This could be fun ....
