Its the time of year that people get colds, or the flu, we all know how to avoid getting a cold but it doesnt always work, so what is is the best to shift a cold/flu once you have it? is it:

    1. Keep warm
    2. keep wrapped up, and indoors if you can.
    3. have the flu injection, (which i have every year)
    4. drink plenty of fluids, preferably warm driks.
    5. take paracetomals?
    6. or just give your cold to someone else?

also why is it when you buy cold, cough, flu medicens they are always non drowsy? wouldn't you want something that can make you drowsy so you can get some sleep in between coughing and hacking your guts up?

None of the above. 1,2,4,5 = treatment of the superficial symptoms. 3 = prevention of something altogether different. 6 = misery loves company.

In my experience, by far the best way to get rid of a cold is to cheer on your immune system and wait.

Suicide stops the common cold dead in its tracks.

    kind of radical though.

You could also burn away the lining of your nose and throat alternatively.

    still radical though

    Prevention.

Don't touch your nose, mouth, and eyes with your palms/fingers unless your hands are clean (haven't touch contaminated people/things.)

Don't inhale near sick people. Move away from them.

Wash hands frequently when in public.

Cough down into your chest. Lift your collar forward if possible. Do not use your hands or just cough into the air. That's inconsiderate and rude.

Lots of prayer and declaration daily of divine/supernatural/perfect health.

I will be 42 on Christmas. I have not had a cold since I was 12. And I am around sick people all day/every day.

You have Someone to watch over you. That's hardly fair.

It's because they contain decongestant that are stimulants--so they take a negative feature and make it sound like it's a good thing. They also create different formulation with a sleep aid (an anti-histamine) that's intended for "night time" use. That way they sell twice as much of their medicine.

Avoid dairy products, refined flours, refined sugars while nursing a cold. Oddly enough, honey, rice syrup, and such, are fine. Keep those feet dry—moisture builds up quickly. And take the opportunity to do some serious introspection. Also, chewable C and echinacea seems to help, but the echinacea should be taken when a cold is on-coming, otherwise it'll simply soothe the tedious agony of the cold. God, I hate colds.

Well, I'm just the one to speak, as I am currently down with a cold :bawl:

If the cold isn't too bad, dress warmly and go out to get some fresh air.
Indoors, make sure the air isn't too dry.
Don't sleep in a warm room, ever. Obviously, the room shouldn't be chilly, but the temperature should be lesser than during the day. It might take some time and effort though, to find a suitable temperature and to get used to it.

Yes. Tea mostly, fruit and herbal.

I got morning allergy attacks...its so distressing.

I would say two things have helped me most with dealing with cold/flu/allergies:

    1) drinking hot tea with chamomile and ginger

    and

    2) sneezing underwater while swimming in a pool

Right, I forgot. Strong caffeine as that found in coffee but not so much in teas.

I didn't know that. I do notice that when I have a cold, dairy products don't seem appealing.

Mhm. Refined stuff isn't good, ever.

Yes - shower regularly. Being stinky and sweaty makes things worse.

I'm glad you brought this up. Yes - when it's 2 AM, with a stuffed nose, the body feeling as if it had 10 tons, the head like a coalmine, it's necessary to do some good introspection. Bad thoughts make everything so much worse.
