It may be a popular idea, but very few people take it seriously. Taking it seriously is qualitatively different from uttering it and then spending your entire salary on a pair of Nikes and the latest hot sunglasses.

People like being in a system, you'll find more people gravitate towards organised society (and an easier life) and less running naked through the jungle (and choosing discomfort)
Na it depends. As soon as the "system" no longer suits the majority of people to a certain degree, its days are numbered.

S.A.M, Not sure why you call it a rant. It's one of the most considered and insightful speeches I've ever heard. Means only singles out communism at one point to demonstrate that it's the same old story as every other European 'ism'.
Any system. When the "good" people can no longer act "good", time for a new system. When the die-hards, the simple people can no longer pull good fruit from it, it is spoiled. When the power of the "good" eye can no longer see, the plowshare of evil must come, again and again...
