Like enormous jewel factories in the sky, the chaotic environments around some supermassive black holes crank out prodigious amounts of glass, rubies and sapphires, a new study finds. http://www.space.com/scienceastronomy/071009-quasar-jewels.html Don't these scientists know rubies are red sapphires??:shrug:
Apparently they are different varieties of corundum, so can be talked about seperately as "rubies and sapphires".
Why would a ruby have a hard time surviving in space? It's made of crystallized aluminum oxide, which is one of the more resistant materials known. It resists chemicals and heat.
<doh!> I thought that said rabies. anyways for some reason I thought only good rubies were found in Burma. I really need to listen when boring people talk.
ah, thank you. Well, those are the ones I want. Just like natural pearls are better than cultured ones.
