Anyone here brew kombucha? If so, got a question for you:

I bought a kombucha tea mushroom off the internet, put it in a batch of green tea, which actually started to grow mold. Fortunately, the mold seems to have been overpowered by a fresh mushroom which is developing over top the old mushroom and mold. This batch isn't safe to drink, but I'm wondering if it would be safe to use the mushroom, or at least part of the new mushroom, to brew another batch? What do you think?

This is a special culture that was purchased over the internet, so I'd hate to order a new one..

Well, take it for what it's worth, but the Wikipedia article says, "If mold does grow on the surface of the kombucha pellicle, or "mushroom," it is best to throw out the batch and start over."

Personally I just buy the Yogi Tea Green Tea Energy tea bags--sure the money goes to support a cult but it's a very nice blend of Kombucha and other herbs (including Reishi Mushroom), which seems to improve concentration and mental energy.

I've only grown cubensis, but that kombucha looks interesting.
