I'm a computer tard, I know, but does any-one know how many files can fit in a single folder without creating a directory tree, or sub-folder in xp. In win 98' the number is somthing like 22, or 23,000 items before the folder does not "work'

    Um, don't know about that.

If you have more than 8 sub folders, you can't open that particular thing in DOS mode (because it exceeds 66 characters).

I've never heard of an actual space limit. I did a full install on Baldur's Gate (dumped all 5 CDs, plus Tales of the Sword coast, on to my harddrive), and that was like a freaking 2.5GB (with my save games and all).

I've also had a ton on individual files in the same folder as well.

Never really heard of a limit.

Like Clarentavious, I have never heard of a limit for the amount of subdirectories you can have in directory. If there is a limit it is beyond most users needs.

Yes there is a limit and its the size of your harddisk

Its just you would be a real idiot or newbie to not organise your files properly in directories and subdirectories cause with the size of harddisks these days its hard to find things even when they are organised

The only thing infact which has the limit in DOS is *.COM extension programs.
