Personally, I think that we ought to use Leonard Cohen's 'Democracy' as our national anthem.....I like the way it sounds much better, and it is a better description:
It's coming through a hole in the air,
from those nights in Tiananmen Square.
It's coming from the feel
that it ain't exactly real,
or it's real but it ain't exactly there.
From the wars against disorder,
from the sirens night and day;
from the fires of the homeless,
from the ashes of the gay:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming through a crack in the wall,
on a visionary flood of alcohol;
from the staggering account
of the Sermon on the Mount
which I don't pretend to understand at all.
It's coming from the silence
on the dock of the bay,
from the brave, the bold, the battered
heart of Chevrolet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming from the sorrow on the street,
the holy places where the races meet;
from the homicidal bitchin'
that goes down in every kitchen
to determine who will serve and who will eat.
From the wells of disappointment
where the women kneel to pray
for the grace of G-d in the desert here
and the desert far away:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
Sail on, sail on
o mighty Ship of State!
To the Shores of Need
past the Reefs of Greed
through the Squalls of Hate
Sail on, sail on
It's coming to America first,
the cradle of the best and the worst.
It's here they got the range
and the machinery for change
and it's here the family's broken
and it's here the lonely say
that the heart has got to open
in a fundamental way:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
It's coming from the women and the men.
O baby, we'll be making love again.
We'll be going down so deep
that the river's going to weep,
and the mountain's going to shout Amen!
It's coming like the tidal flood
beneath the lunar sway,
imperial, mysterious,
in amorous array:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean:
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.

Something went wrong there, I tried to correct it , but it didn´t work...but you get the picture. :D
Thank you Xev, that did make it up.......to me. Now you ahve to go do it for 33 million other Canadians. Haha.
And in typical American fashion, went a little on the excess with the pro-Yank stuff eh? Always with the excess!
First thing a Canadian notices in America is when they go to eat. You guys tend to be more about quantity and less about quality!
At least in food!
HEY! I gave your national anthem and flag, I did the same for mine.
Now you ahve to go do it for 33 million other Canadians. Haha.
Haha, and how do you propose I make it up to them? ;)
First thing a Canadian notices in America is when they go to eat. You guys tend to be more about quantity and less about quality!
Too true. American restarants serve huuuge portions and our food is not very good. The thing to do is to eat at first generation immigrant restarants.
And what's with all the Tim Hortons? Can't drive through Windsor without seeing at least 10 Tim Horton's stores!

Well, my Civics teacher said that everyone in Canada was an immigrant, because we all came from a different place. The only true "Canadians" would be the Natives, but then again, didn't they cross over on some ice bridge a long long time ago? *shrug*
But yeah, Canada needs more immigrants, 'cause of the aging baby boomer population and the fact that people are having less children to make up for it. And the fact that people get their education here (I have no idea why, they're all crazy, the system sucks), and then move to the US to get a job. So you see...yeah. Good way to end a sentence, eh? heh heh
Least tolerant to immigrants? Who the hell said that?
We're one of the most multicultural nations on earth.
from one book. it's a bit outdated though, was written in late 60s (i think) by one american writer. Arthur Haely (sp).
Ah, well. All I can tell you is Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world and Canada is one of the more multicultural nations.

Country in northern europe next to Russia and Estonia
Invaded by USSR in 40s, became free when the SU collapsed
Democracy

Latvia
Introduction
Top of Page
Background:
After a brief period of independence between the two World Wars, Latvia was annexed by the USSR in 1940. It reestablished its independence in 1991 following the breakup of the Soviet Union. Although the last Russian troops left in 1994, the status of the Russian minority (some 30% of the population) remains of concern to Moscow. Latvia continues to revamp its economy for eventual integration into various Western European political and economic institutions.

Economy

Economy - overview:
In 2000, Latvia's transitional economy recovered from the 1998 Russian financial crisis, largely due to the SKELE government's budget stringency and a gradual reorientation of exports toward EU countries, lessening Latvia's trade dependency on Russia. Latvia officially joined the World Trade Organization in February 1999 - the first Baltic state to join - and was invited at the Helsinki EU Summit in December 1999 to begin accession talks in early 2000. Unemployment fell to 7.8% in 2000, down from 9.6% in 1999, and 9.2% in 1998. Privatization of large state-owned utilities and the shipping industry faced more delays in 2000, and political instability will continue to delay completion of the privatization process over the next year. Latvia projects 6% GDP growth, 2.5%-3.0% inflation, and a 1.7% fiscal deficit in 2001. Preparing for EU membership over the next few years remains a top foreign policy goal.

Interesting..... I guess your country could use some nuclear power instead of burning fossil fuels.
no way Nuclear.
We have 250 rivers. most of them can be used for hidroelectrical purposes. We can supply us with electroenergy with water turbines only if needed, only they are very expensive to build in the first place.

Nope, Riverslime is farther south from where I am at. I live closer
to Hollyweird. Closest I ever got to Riverslime was when I lived in
Garbage Grove. If memory serves - Zappa wrote a song called
San Bernardino. A bit of trivia - The original name of Los Angeles
was El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles (The Town of the Queen of
the Angels).

The Netherlands, where the government always speaks with a double tung: one supporting the war, to keep our trading relations with the usa intact and another against the war to convince ourselves we are the the premier liberal human rights nation in europe....
President Bush explicitly mentioned our country as being part of the "international coalition again$t iraq". Now the Belgiums must have more balls and less brains than us cause they took a firm stance against the agressive usa imperialism. Hell they even want to prosecute George W. Bush sr. and Ariel Sharon for Warcrimes....
Perhaps they hope for a good bussiness deal with France , cause the usa will likely not invest in Belgium any time soon...

If you answered 'other' then please tell us where if you don't mind revealing your country.
Your poll doesn't include a single legitimate African, Latin American, or Asian country. If you were conducting a poll a thousand years ago, noone would have answerd you.
Your logic of showing Israel instead of China, India, Egypt, ect..on your list beats me.
I agree those countries should be on there as well, but there are 3 people from Isreal, so I suppose that belongs up there as well.
Too bad you can't have a growing poll, where u click one if its up there, else you add it dynamically. Wish i had the source to vBulletin, I'd write a patch.

I live up there on the leftside bank of the river, it's called Glomma and is Norways longest river. Check the fortified old town on the right. The tallship races are coming here in august next summer

Actually, it's a very mild cheese, mixed with whipped cream and sugar and some gelatine and it sits on a base made from crushed bicuits and melted butter, which is flattened out and allowed to become hard. The whole thing is put in the fridge to set and then, if you like, you can spread fruit conserve or puree on it. Flavours and textures can range from semi dry and cheesy to moist and creamy and disgustingly sweet, but a good home-made one is to die for.

yeah Sarnia is a pretty small boring town as well, it's near London ON
yes it's in Southwestern Ontario, pretty close to the US, just across the Bluewater bridge in Sarnia and you'll be in Port Huron, Michigan
Have you seen Bowling for Columbine? Micheal Moore actually went to Sarnia to interview the mayor and some students in this peaceful city:)

My town, Lemesos Cyprus, is a thriving tourist centre on the Mediterranean coast. Being only 11km x 6km you can normally get from one side to the other in about 15 minutes. local journeys take an average of 7 minutes.
Population about 150000 nationals, 50000 foreigners and 3000000 tourists a year. Sun shines 340 days a year. My house is half way up a hill and is surrounded by small hills with houses and gardens on them. Being only 3km from the beach, I can see the ocean from the eastern and south-facing rooms upstairs.
A MacDonald's burger costs 69c (US $1.20)) A kebab in pita costs 1.90 ($3.50) A Mercedes SLK costs 50000 pounds ($90000) A packet of decent fags 2 pounds. A small studio on the beach 80000 pounds, A 3 bed house in town 140000 pounds, A lux villa with pool 350000-800000, A mansion with everything 1.5m-5mil
I think a lap dance in a private booth in a 'gentlemen's club', costs around 20-30 pounds, coffe in a smart cafe 1.75-3.00 pounds, M about 300-500 an ounce (highly illegal), cinema 4 pounds.
I thought you might really need to know all that:rolleyes: :)

did you notice the Golden-Gate Bridge look-alike and the Christ statue which is identical (smaller, perhaps) to Brazil's? *sigh* - Apart from that, it does have it's own identity. :)
Here's the city I live near. Can't find anything on my actual town but this will do
http://www.thespinnakertower.com/AERIAL1.gif
This is a picture of Gunwharf Quays, a new shopping/entertainment centre with some nice architecture. Notice the big boat, that's the worlds largest yaght. Also pictured is the Spinnaker Tower (still being built).

And here's a splendid pic of a lampost.
I'm not really a fan of Portsmouth. It is the UK's only island city, the home of the Royal Navy...it's about 900 years old...and it's near me. It was rated 3rd worst city in the UK and there's a reported fight every ten minutes.
But don't let that put you off, come visit!

I live on the third coast--the Gulf of Mexico in "Brick Oven City." We're 45 miles above sea level. We have NASA and the Rockets. We have the largest medical center in the world housing more than 8,000 physicians. We have Minute Maid Park, Reliant Stadium, and the Toyota Center. We have immigrants from every country in the world. We have one month of fall, one month of winter, one month of spring, and nine months of summer. The median age of the people in my city is about 27 years old. Have you guessed what city I live in? It's Houston, TX.
I live in Slovenia, Europe. A tiny country in the shape of a hen.
I live out in the country, with lots of trees and fields around me. I sometimes think I am in a fairy tale or something ...
Looks like an idyllic place to live... d'you have a boat? Suffer from flooding?
It is nice :) Am getting a boat this month and no no flooding problems

Maybe this is a bit simplistic, John, but - given that you use the Irish flag as your avatar - I assume you are in the Republic of Ireland?
Or maybe you've turned the flag upside down, and you're really in Cote D'Ivoire...

I'm based here
http://www.bemuddlement.com/BM_Estates/cbbox/cb_box.jpg
Granted it is not in beautiful Lisbon, but it is compact, detached, low maintenance. Situated in a highly sought after and picturesque corner of central park NY.
Great thing about this place is my water, gas and electricity rates are competitively priced, mainly due to the fact that the place came with no such services.
Local amenities are close to hand because I can be moved closer to the amenities of my choice(likenext to a public libary for internet use). The lack of double glazing is not really a disadvantage though, as the lack of any windows ensures my heating is quick and efficient. Nice place if I say so.

because its a bad poll, if you look real close you notice that there are quite a few countries missing.

Yeah, basically Latin America does not matter, Asia does not matter, Cardboard boxes do not matter etc. This person is obviously a eurocentric anti-low income housing zionist, if there is such a thing.
I live in the obese USA. California.
My current residence is in a suburban city of Los Angeles named Arcadia. It's home to a famous racetrack and arboretum.
