Matter that is dark! Actually I was thinking it could be ice crystals since they can't be seen and they hold mass.

Try looking for ice crystals at over 5 light years away, tell me how you could see them?

If the ice-crystals comprise an object the size of a star id see them.

Dark matter isnt stuff that is small and far away. Insects would qualify then too if they were 5 ly away.

Then if it isn't small why can't it be seen?

Then the dark matter would be known if it were the size of a star but like I said ice crystals which are very tiny.

"In astrophysics and cosmology, dark matter refers to hypothetical matter of unknown composition that does not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation to be observed directly, but whose presence can be inferred from gravitational effects on visible matter. According to present observations of structures larger than galaxy-sized as well as Big Bang cosmology, dark matter accounts for the vast majority of mass in the observable universe."

Whats keeping the ice-crystals apart then... everything else has gravity and 'sticks' together.

We cannot even see comets in our own solar system which are made up of ice.

Ok, go ahead.. write your own theory on dark matter.

I was just proposing my own theory as to what it was, I could be right or wrong but at least I took a shot at it. What do you think it is?

No one knows what it is.
So for the moment im going with the standing hypothesis if i have to take a stand.

That that they don't know. Does that mean you can't even guess as too what it might be?

i think dark matter is believed to make up 90% of the matter in the universe. it is supposed to explain what holds the galaxies together, since normal matter is not enough.

according to the big bang model, i don't think there is any way that water could make up over 90% of the matter in the universe.

Water is heavy, a gallon of it is over 8 pounds! Think of all that space filled with tiny frozen water, say each one weighing at a pound or so. That would be alot of mass when you added it all up.
