Lets say fraternal twins were separated at birth. 25 yrs later they meet and fall in love. Then they find out they are brother/sister. Should they be able to get married?
There was an incident in Europe along these lines; though with siblings, I believe. Weird as the notion feels, I would say that consenting adults should be free to do as they please. It might be a good idea to abstain from bringing any kids into such a consanguineous relationship though.
The minute we allow gays to marry, then we virtually MUST allow incestuous couples to marry ....otherwise it would be discriminatory, right? Fathers should be allowed to marry their daughters, mothers and sons, brothers and sisters, multiple couples, ...., ... Hell, let's just throw out all the marriage laws and let people marry their sheep and goats, too! Baron Max
why do people always bring animals into it. Freudian slip??? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! And since when can animals consent and sign paperwork?
Unlike homosexual marriage, incestuous marriage may lead to harmful consequences, such as deformed children. Sheep and goats do not consent to marriage, so that's out of the question.
The sibblings in Europe knew they were brother and sister when they became involved. They also had children out of the relationship. I can't remember what happened to them though. I know all but the youngest of their children were taken from them and put into care and the brother was facing jail and was challenging the laws to allow them to marry. Baron is the goat whisperer.
Yeah, I'm having to come up how I stand on this morality wise. Thanks for the posts all. I guess I'm leaning towards its morally ok as long as they don't have children. Knowing all the risks and still taking them at the expense of your child is selfish.
The way I see it, sexuality is individual; no one can choose who they love or are sexually atrracted to and there are a myriad of psychological and cultural/religious conditioning mechanisms which may underlie whether we consider something taboo or not. Besides, its really no one's business who someone chooses to sleep with as long as they are consenting adults.
So you're against something if there "may be" consequences? Who said anything about children? There's nothing in the marriage laws that I know of that require a couple to have kids. In fact, many couples don't have children and have no plans to do so. Yeah, it's okay to kill 'em and roast 'em and eat 'em, but ...oh, my goodness, to love and marry them requires their written consent! ...LOL! Baron Max
I agree, Sam, but that's not the question. That they have sex in the privacy of their homes is fine, but why should a society lend it's approval by allowing them to marry? Marriage, that's the question, ....not having sex. Baron Max
