Looks like Bart Simpson will never be a diplomat.
The spiky-haired brat of Fox's long-running The Simpsons and his animated clan are being decried by Brazilian officials for an episode they say sullied the reputation of international party destination Rio de Janeiro. In fact, not only are they decrying, they're crying lawsuit. (Full text here ( http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,9775,00.html))I understand that some cultures might be more thin skinned than others, but let's get real: no country is the butt of more Simpson's jokes than the United States. The show is seen the world over, but I haven't noticed any actual or threatened lawsuits of this nature coming from a U.S. source.
I’m pretty sure that the 1st Amendment will protect the FOX studios… perhaps those that were contemplating the suit were just scouting for "deep pockets" and the hopes of a settlement.
Peace.
