Musharaff is playing another card game where he is trying to please both the taliban and their fundamentalist brothers to try to keep his government together instead of tearing the country apart. At the same time he is also trying to assure the west that the war on terror continues dispite a few agreements with the jihadists!

In truth, the Pakistani government has tried. But so far its best efforts have conspicuously failed. In January the city authorities tried to close Lal Masjid, pointing out that, like many mosques in Islamabad, it had been illegally constructed on public land. Ghazi responded with an iron fist. Hundreds of young women from Jamia Hafsa, his female madrasa, rushed to occupy a public children's library next door. Newspaper readers were alarmed to see a picture of several hundred burka-clad figures sitting in the library. One image showed a small boy amongst them, dressed in military fatigues and brandishing a toy rifle.

Islamic clerics at a radical mosque in Pakistan's capital have demanded the minister for tourism be fired, after she was pictured committing a "great sin" by hugging a foreign man.

Minister for Tourism Nilofar Bakhtiar on Monday rejected the Taliban-style edict against her by clerics at Islamabad's Red Mosque, who last week set up their own court to deliver Islamic justice.

The sad thuth of the matter is that they (The clerics) were intimidated that a pakistani woman had the balls to make the jump instead of a man!
