http://rethinkingschools.org/archive/21_02/lego212.shtml Pinko teachers, "concerned" about capitalist leanings in their students, ban the usage of legos. What sort of nonsense is this? "These negotiations gave rise to heated conflict and to insightful conversation. Into their coffee shops and houses, the children were building their assumptions about ownership and the social power it conveys — assumptions that mirrored those of a class-based, capitalist society — a society that we teachers believe to be unjust and oppressive. As we watched the children build, we became increasingly concerned. "

so these children were mimicking stores that sell stuff, like fast food chains? one has to wonder where these teachers think pencils, paper, chalk, blackboards, erasers, desks, chairs, ceiling tile, toilets, water fountains, etc, etc, etc, come from? who pays these teachers anyway? where do these teachers think this money comes from? what about the clothes these students wear? where do they come from? there are 150 billion things that came from capitalism.
I think it's still legal to question capitalism. Even DERIDE it! Or suggest other alternatives!!Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! The Age of the Profiteer are numbered. Looking in other directions isn't a bad thing. Except for fearful and insecure profiteers.
Genji: The Age of Profiteers has just begun. Communism has been empirically and analytically dealt with as a political and economic system. No country practices it besides the most impoverished in the the world: North Korea. It has also been demonstrated by Hayek that Communism is incapable of having the same level of information to the market's condition as free-market capitalism, ergo its command structure is inherently inefficient and unequal.
We'll see. Time will tell. I see changes ahead that will turn this corrupted dog eat dog system on it's head. Cheerleaders of the robber baron class aren't in their parasitic layer, no matter how much they wish to be, they are just defined by how much money they can skim off the next guy, much like early zionists in Europe and the US. Their system is dependent on low wages, poverty and division among the people. It's a fragile system as well. Over confidence and arrogant diatribes about the profiteer machine don't strengthen it at all. It is wrought with built in problems that are expanding by the hour in the global economy. A simple civil war in Saudi Arabia would destabilize the US economy to such a degree Wall Street would implode. When dancing on a glass table, take the time to look for cracks. For they do exist.
Genji: The game has been played. Communism -collapsed- globally. It fell apart like a sand castle before the waves. Capitalism is the only system that will ever work for human society and the grand quality of life it has produced has demonstrated its superiority.
Stalinism collapsed but still exists in several countries. You think there is only one brand of Marxism? That ONLY the USSR & China are examples? You must know more about communism than that. It's a far deeper science than Stalin and Mao my friend. Cheer all you want about the fall of Stalinism. Real communists are cheering even louder that the man responsible for wrecking the Russian Revolution and his bastard brand of 'communism' are both dead. Look to the horizon, change is a comin.
What a hopeless, idealistic dream you have, and it's doomed to fail forever. For hundreds of years humans have attempted to design various economic models and the only one - THE only one - that has lasted and thrived has been capitalism. The problem with those who want to disparage capitalism is that they generally have not studied the history of world economics to any real degree and simply want to believe in things that are actually unattainable. I've yet to see any of those people suggest - in detail - an alternative that would come even close to working. Dream on.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
The teachers certainly agonized alot about it. At my school, we had to put all the toys away at the end of class, even if you made something big. It's not that kids were building capitalist icons, it's that once legotown was built, they felt they had the power to exclude other children in construction. I think by taking away all the legos they are admitting defeat. They should be the ones teaching the kids how to cooperate.
Genji: Stalinism and Maoism are the essence of Communism and these "other" movements are just as prone to the same nonsense as both.
To assume Wall Street capitalism is the sole economic system and that it is the ONLY system that can work is foolish beyond description, not to mention naiive to the extreme. To think the barons have a flawless, failsafe system that will be maintained for eternity is heaping far too much praise on predatory leeching billionaires that would set up shop with slaves in Bangladesh over paying human wages in America. Dream on? I am. Keep those blinders on. It'll be fun to hear the reaction when this house of cards crumbles and your beloved capitaists flee to Dubai & Liechtenstein.
No, they aren't. To truly hate something you must learn it. Stalin was no more of a communist than Ronald Reagan. He killed all the original Bolsheviks and Trotsky. Was that part left out at the Aryan boot camp? You should read up on communism before declaring what it is.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Genji: Trotskyism never amounted to anything but a footnote in Communist history. Moreover, its greater idealism of "world wide revolution" lead to its weakness on a broad scale.
The reason being Trotsky AND the Bolsheviks were murdered by Stalin, the Party was seized by his henchmen at Lenin's death and the destruction of Soviet communism began. Anti communists had no better friend than Josef Stalin. You should have a poster of him!
Foolish, eh? Nay, I'm afraid 'tis you that is being completely foolish in this matter. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Please describe for us in detail your grand plan of whatever you thing would be better. (And be forwarned that it will likely be ripped to shreds by those who truly understand the driving forces of economics and the inherent nature of human beings.)
Do you think there is only one system that can work? I don't. One would be a system based on human need and not profit. Another would be pure Marxist Leninism. Another some socialist elements mixed with market forces. Humans are too corrupted to progress from Wall Street moguls? Are THEY to be looked upon for direction? Leadership? I don't think so. I have no grand plan. You have to search for those. Read and you'll find more than one phiosophy too! Jerking off to Gates and Wall Street bankers must be highly confining and damaging to your own mental independence.
