Imagine an America where wise leaders exiled (to Africa or the Middle East) everyone whose IQ fell under 115.

The same wise leaders might, with good conscience, exile all violent criminals, welfare cheats, deceptive businesspeople, con men and pedophiles as well.

Finding themselves only interested in what was healthy for their citizens, they might also ban or moderate mass media, junk food, pornography, cigarettes/alcohol/drugs - for not killing those dumb enough to consume them quickly.

At the same time, they might eliminate speed limits, remove legal obligation to safety warnings, and open up both unfettered nature and free-for-all fight zones - for killing those dumb enough to fail them quickly.

Imagine an America of 92.8 million people, each competent enough to live confidently and well, without need for parasitism.

The only question you must ask is: would this civilization be better off than the status quo, or worse?

It's a horrible, awful, no-good and fascinating question, isn't it?

Better yet, if they were smart they would probably just legalize everything and let all the less aware people just die from not looking out for themselves.

Then they could cut back on spending just for "their own good" which is not good for the people who are actually aware of cause and effect.

The problem is that there is always someone smarter who is not in control of the situation.

It would seem that all societies require masses of lesser peoples to fill necessary positions on the lower-strata.

Which is why we need to create more advanced and cost-efficient machines to fill those positions.

    Renrue:

Machines only breed an under-class of machine-workers. Plus, machines generally rob us of aspects of our humanity.

we need better materials to really make the leap into an automated society. perhaps carbon nanotubes will fill that niche in the next century.

Can we come up with carbon nanotubes that won't catch fire?

I imagine that mass production of the nanotubes is the hard part. the easy part will be to find a composite material that will prevent combustion.
