anyone want to take a stab at the value of an mpa/mpp degree? i'm thinking of the degrees offered by kennedy at harvard, sipa at columbia, sais at johns hopkins, sfs at georgetown, etc. that people typically do for two years in order to find employment with international organizations, foreign governments, or the us federal government.

however, these programs typically do not provide much financial aid, and the cost of attendance is usually around $50,000/yr. given that you won't be earning that much working in the public sector, is this degree worth it? another way of phrasing this question is: can you get these jobs without these degrees or is it imperative that you do a degree like this in order to network for employment opportunities?
