If a giant asteroid was going to hit the earth the size of australia, when or would the public be notified? What would be like an evacuation plan?

If the asteroid was the size of Australia, I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Just enjoy a few good bottles of Jim Beam before the lights go out for good.

OK, something smaller that would take out a large region without catastrophically destroying earth.

There would be looting, raping and absolute carnage... depending on where you pick the area of impact, masses of people most likely can not be evacuated to a far enough distance.

And they would know, because of the internet and astrologeers all around the world...

There will be silence eternal. And people will fall in love once more with life and forgive the others around them. All shall unite and sing before the the stars that slowly deem behind the shape of upcoming grace.

I think it would be for the best of all of us that we not know of such impending doom.

People always say that, but I disagree.
Look at natural and man-made disasters, and one thing you will consistently see is people coming together, calming down and working towards a resolution.
    The looting, raping, etc...
IF it happens at all, is generally small-scale, and doesn;t come until after the real danger passes.

Besides, would you run out and rape and kill people if you saw this on the news this afternoon?
I'd wager that most will not.

The original reports were sensationalized out of control.
There were actually very few cases of violence, and the vast majority of the "looting" were simple household supplies needed to get by.
A far cry from "absolute carnage".

This was, as I said, after the immediate threat was over, and it was also limited and localized.
Absolute carnage? Nothing of the sort.

Yes the museum was robbed while the country was under attack. And?
This was not a natural disaster, this was a prolonged military strike.
Military action is, by definition, carnage.
It is an entirely different situation, PLUS the vast majority of the people were STILL not running around raping, killing and wreaking havoc.
