Doesn't matter who is going to be the next president (with the sole exception of Ron Paul) or the president after that (2012) or even later, the US is going to stay in Iraq, land of the great Prize for the next 2 decades, or until a cheaper and more practical energy source is found than crude oil, whichever comes first. Doesn't matter what kind of bullshit you are going to hear for the next few years or how many US soldiers will die there, withdrawing is not an viable option, and no serious US politican consider it as such (doesn't matter what they lie to you). I tought I would just tell you the truth, so you can enjoy reality TV, French fries and soda, instead of debating politics (aka, wasting your time) Enjoy the weekend! Yes, we're really getting oil from this. That is why we're being raped at the pump. And oh, we've gotten NO oil. Please, leave the kiddy pool of thought.
I hate to respond, because there was really no line of thought, but hey.... OBVIOUSLY, things aren't going according to plan. Also, sometimes in strategy denying the other side to have access to valuable commodities also has value. Where do you live? Gas is not incredibly high where I live, not to mention, that because of peakoil, gasprices will increase independently from Iraq's ability to pump more. You don't have to believe me, just remember me in 2017... P.S.: Building the biggest US embassy (I meant fortress) on Earth in Bagdad and 12 or so military bases around the country are sure signs of bastions of freedom... Syzygys: "OBVIOUSLY, things aren't going according to plan." That's an understatement. The Mother of All Embassies and "enduring bases" will be monuments to the failed American neoconservative / neocolonial experiment. The American Presence in Iraq, just like the American Presence in Arabia, is unsustainable because it's a destabilizing force. It won't take even one decade for this to become obvious to everyone.
SamCDKey: Funny, but a "foreign investment" does not equal "US controls it". If we really wanted to control it, we would be like "woops, here comes America taking her share for freeing you ragheads from Saddam Hussein!". New York City. Our gas prices are still well over 2 dollars a gallon.
Ahh, your anti-Americanism is showing, Sam. Surely you, of all people, don't condemn all Americans for the acts of a few, do you???? Baron Max
Only for swallowing the bull and letting it happen. I mean, don't Dumbericans ever read their own history????? PS Dumbericans are a subspecies of Americans.
Trying to soften the orginal blow of your blatant anti-Americanism, Sam? I don't think many people here will buy such bullshit ...even from you. Baron Max
Ahh, so now you've reverted to personal attacks?? ...LOL! "Revenge is mine, sayeth the Muslims of the world." Baron Max
Looks like your opinion of yourself is not too high either. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Greetings, fellow inmate of the Soviet Socialist Republik of Nyovo York ! I myself reside at the opposite end of this glorious and socially progressive realm, in the Southeastern corner of Erie County. Please remember that the Republik charges a beneficient and undoubtedly well-spent 31.9 cents per gallon tax on gasoline. (the second highest such tax in the USA !) Recall also -" Does not include an estimated 7.9 cents per gallon for gasoline and 6.7 cents per gallon for diesel from weighted county average sales taxes that range from 3.25% to 4.75% " US Gas Taxes Excelsior !!!
