Is there a point to this?

People don't like their democratically elected leader and want him out of office?

    No way!

Pretty sure that's going on here. And Canada. And Mexico. And everywhere else.

You find me a country that has 100% of people saying "our leader is doing fantastic." and it can't be a communist one, because then you know they have a gun to their head when they answer the poll.

I guess it just shows, that people are stupid. Or they didn't have a choice in the first place.

Nevertheless there is nothing wrong calling back a leader when he doesn't perform up to expectations. After all you can get ride of a CEO too.

And Tony would leave anyway, so why not help him and let him spend more time with his family???

The point here is that Blair has already stated he is going to step down this summer. Why wait?

It is about saving face. He wants to step down on his own terms, and not others telling him to go....
