I usually warm up before playing but everytime I warm up before I set out to record I never end up recording so I got out of the shower, decided "what the hell" and just record. I get nervous when I record and I had to cut it short since you can hear my phone vibrating in the back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW_1umNAR58
Man, it's really disturbing how good some people are... when I look up "slap bass" in youtube. A lot of those guys are absolutely nuts. I don't even understand it.
Ever seen stuff by Victor Wooten? jesus Christ the dude is on a level of his own. Les Claypool can't even touch this guy.
Yeah, Vic is the man. Perhaps one of the best. But my favorite bassist is Alex Katunich from Incubus. Well, he was in Incubus. Check out this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhTgSKr9jAk He has this awesome little solo break after the first chorus. It's so friggin' sweet.
Incubus is my favorite band and Alex is indeed one of the best (was one of the best) bassist in mainstream music.
Sarge: Nicely done. Have you thought of trying it on a classical guitar? François: A fellow bassist. Good chops. I absolutely cannot make that funky popping sound. You'd think by now somebody would have invented a pedal for it. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Yeah, Vic is quite a bit better. At least from the perspective of technique. If you want an example of just how sick he is at bass, download the songs "The Sinister Minister" from Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (that's the band Victor Wooten is in) and download some random song called "Turbo Jazz." He's amazing. Well, amazing might be an understatement. I'm sure he's on youtube, as well.
Very nice SargentLard. Makes me want to play again. Victor Wooten: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CR6t47pV8Qc -- Gets into Amazing Grace. http://youtube.com/watch?v=8vdJvHE8qxA -- A "thump off" versus his older brother. http://youtube.com/watch?v=f9a4ThBNacY -- Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. http://youtube.com/watch?v=xtSAUvegDw8 -- Dueling the Drummer Steve Smith. http://youtube.com/watch?v=RYwdh_HIFDE -- A cool bluesy solo.
The best video with Victor is this: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7179726751961627284&q=victor wooten human being With Steve Bailey they play and teach in a very funny way for 38 minutes. Steve is using a 6 string bass and at least as good as Victor. Very funny and excellent music!! The Human Being Compnay with 2 bassists.... Generally I don't like to compare musicians, because music is an art form not a race, but playing a 6 string fretless bass is probably harder than playing a normal bass...
I finally got a chance to check these out. He is definitely very good, but he just doesn't hit me the way Les does. This guy impresses me, but Les moves me.
