I fell asleep this afternoon and I dreamt that I was sitting next to my computer listening to some music I'd created. I wish I really had created and recorded the music for you guys to listen to, it was a wicked piece of lounge/nujazz/funky stylee that went on and on (blissful) and then a repetitive processed voice sample came in and as I concentrated on what it was saying, I heard 'tablariddim tablariddim' LOL. It was fucking great.

I think my subconscious is telling me to hurry up and set up my studio again.

I produce. Started in '85 with an Atari and various synths and went through the whole gamut of dance/ uptempo/ downtempo/ ambient/ fusion until I stopped in '99 after deciding that I wanted to write novels and also discovered Sciforums.

My later stuff had in fact developed into something akin to stories made by sounds, very long trippy/hard rhythmic themes that evolved from one genre to another, but nothing like what you might imagine, all very original and deep stuff and veeery :m: inspired.

I've been delaying reinstating my studio mainly because I want to get modern equipment, which means I'll have to face a steep learning curve before I'm able to find my new musical expression with it. On top of that, I've got dozens of tracks that exist only as song files on floppy discs and which I want to transfer into my new program and remix, because they're too good to just dump, which will eat up more time. Also, I don't do the weed any more and I've never experienced making music without it, so I'm a bit um, hesitant, but i'm pretty certain that I'll be able to come up with the goods again... won't know if I don't try.

I might sort out some rough mixes of my later stuff and post it in the Art forum.

Love it, got loads of stuff by Tavlin Singh and Nusraat Ali Khan and others I can't remember. Trilok Gurtu is also fantastic, while not exactly Asian beats there is a lot of Asian/Indian influence in his brand of Jazz. Ive just ordered about 20 cd's from Amazon and a lot them feature Asian beats and samples.

    deff.

    www.bbc.co.uk/radio1

lots of good stuff on there. basically up untill 7pm its mainstream pop, but after that they have the specialist shows like bobby and nihal, zane lowe, drum and bass, dance, etc etc.

you can listen to all the shows online.

also check out giles peterson's show, you'll like the stuff he plays.

use the dj/shows navigation to go to the dj's individual web page and from there you can listen again to their show.

cool. I listen to lounge-radio.com pretty much most of the time, which has a very nice continuous stream of chillin' grooves, but I'll check out R!, I know I like Gilles Peterson.

you'll love Bobby and nihal too, they're good geezers. I havent listened to the show for quite a while myself.

PS you have quite a detailed knowledge of kebab establishments in the fulham area for someone who doesn't live in the Uk.

I checked out Bobby & Nihal last night, I found them interesting but a bit too jungly and it kind of broke the chilled vibe I was into, but I'll check again.

I used to be a Londoner and proffessional kebab merchant.

The thing about dreams like this is you have to ask yourself if you were actually listening to music or if you were just experiencing what I refer to as a 'place holder'.

Dreams are held together by a certain suspension of disbelief.
    Like hypnosis.

This is not to say that all dreamt experiences are 'place holders'. Many times people do dream things and then come out of the dream to transfer the dreamt experience into concrete reality. But, even with these, I wonder just how much of the creation takes place after the dream and how much during...
Rationalization is a well-entrenched human cognitive trait and has been shown to take place after the fact in many instances. That is, first we act, then we explain, to ourselves as well as to others, why we acted.

Not sure I understand what you are saying ehre Invert re the place holiding thing. Got any links that can elaborate?

Meanwhile doesn't lucid dreaming demosntrate you have the experience while you are dreaming/asleep as you are aware of the fact you are dreaming and asleep and recall it afterwards or am I missing something?

I don't really understand what you're saying. The music I could hear was difinitely in the dream and not from an outside source, but there's no way I could remember it now.

I get a lot of inspiring thoughts that I wish I had remembered but just don't have the initiative to get out of bed and right them down - usually! Keep a tape recorder by your side. If you get an inspiring thought or tune that comes to your head, then quickly get up and record it in the tape recorder that you have ready by your side.

The dream was lucid and I was so thrilled to be listening to this stuff that there's no way I was going to leave it, but even if I had woken up and attempted to hum it to a recorder, probably the best I would have come up with would have been the bass line, but there was so much more going on, so many syncopated riffs and melodies, horn sections, brass, synths.. phew!
But it's ok, it just showed me that all this stuff is in my head anyway and is bound to come out for real eventually.

I heard an awesome drum solo the other night. But I wasn't playing it myself.
