If Guy Fawkes were a modern figure, would people still be celebrating his capture, torture and execution with "ooh" and "aah" fireworks? Isn't it a bit of a slap in the face for Catholics? Whatever his methods, Guy Fawkes was just trying to bring down a bigoted Anglican government which treated Catholics as second (or third, or fourth...) class citizens.
Don't forget that in mainland Europe, Catholic rulers treated all other faiths in much the same way. For the time, the English parliament was entirely normal. And he's a terrorist. You're only a freedom fighter if you win.
The way I see it, the Protestant politicians in parliament deserved to be blown up... the Catholics went through terrible hardships under Protestant rule. As they say, 'What goes around, comes around'.
Guy Fawkes was innocent. He was framed by a susbet of the Illuminati. All will be revealed in a soon-to-be-released thread by Matt Marr. Film rights have already been sold for an undisclosed sum to Oliver Stone. Dan Brown will write the filmscript.
