I was watching a hockey game some while back (NHL) and was trying to get into it. It was a home game for the San Jose Sharks. They were playing and were losing (normal for them). Finally, they evened up the score. At some point, with a 3-3 tie, the refs blew their whistles, the game stopped, and they took the San Jose goalie out of the game. The announcers gave no explanation. Nobody said anything about a foul or anything else. Lo and behold, the other team racked up 3 points, a lead the Sharks (or Guppies) never recovered from. Can someone explain this?

(Or is there an NHL rule that says the Sharks are not to win any games?)

chances are he was either wearing illegal equipment or he was hurt.

He didn't look hurt, so I'll have to go with the equipment thing. I don't know anything about what they are and aren't supposed to wear. That makes sense, because they sent him to the penalty box. Thanks!
