If acceptance of mushrik behavior leads to peace, tolerance, and an end to the influence of the "Pat Robertsons" of the world, and others like him who accept violence as "holy", I'm sure Allah will deal with it.

If Allah is the highest God, then nobody on earth has ever proven an exclusive right to him/her/it.

Unfortunately, it is more likely to lead to riots over cartoons.

The issue here is about the status of the Prophets (Alive/dead?) and maybe Tawassul as well. The Wahabis/Salafis & Deobandis (only slightly) differ from the mainstream views in these areas. It is the Wahabi/Salafi school of thought that is fervently opposed to the uttering of such statements, they even oppose saying ‘Ya Rasul’Allah!’. Shirk is the gravest sin in Islam, we are told that Allah will never forgive one who associates partners with Him, the thing is Wahabis/Salafis etc. suffer from literalism, they cannot see anything beyond that. There are examples from the Quran as well as many from the time of the Prophet and His Companions.

It’s a long and complicated subject, some links:

    ^ very, very important.

The Prophet said this not long before he passed away:

"I am to precede you and I have been made witness upon you. By Allâh, you will meet me at the ‘Fountain’ very soon. I have been given the keys of worldly treasures. By Allâh, I do not fear for you that you will turn polytheists after me. But I do fear that acquisition of worldly riches should entice you to strike one another’s neck."

Thank you Ghost. I hope your fasts are going well too.

I just remembered. My grandmother used to sing me to sleep with a salaam, you might know it?

"Ya nabi salaam aleikum, Ya rasool salaam aleikum"

I don't have anything against idealisation, but some naats I've heard are pretty borderline and verge on shirk.

By the way, I really enjoy your posts, you have a good grasp of Islamic theology.

Wow, thank you!!! I enjoy reading your posts as well, you’re a tough woman!

My fasts are going well, thanks for asking.

Yeh!!! I recite those all the time. It is important to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet, his family and Companions. If you show respect to the Prophet, you show respect to Allah. It’s the same with all the Prophets and all those that Allah loves.

    I might have a few, if I find them I’ll upload them 4 u.

Thats the prayer for guidance. Lets say someone proposes to you and you're not sure whether to accept it or not, you can make this special prayer, you’re supposed to make it just before you go to sleep. You will then be shown best course of action.

    I'll hunt down some links 4 u.

I made this special prayer when I was confused and was shown the light.

shirk = to associate partners with God.

mushrik = one who does the above.

Isn't that strange? My grandma died more than 20 years ago.

Don't know why she came to mind today.

I am not muslim, but let me say, the thing I love about Islam is that there is always some wisdom to be found in it to counteract those who want to call it "evil" or "violent".

Also, are there certain sects in islam which would not recognize the sufi mystics as muslims, the same way some christian fundamentalists negate the christianity of some teachers?
