I know that when I decide what is absolutely true I go through a strict process of evaluating the source of my truth. This is how I determine what source is more reliable than another. My goal is to reach 10 reliability points. 1] Is the source my mommy/daddy or someone I like/love: 1 point I know that mommy/daddy never lie and that she/he loves me too much to tell me something that is wrong. Yet, a part of me is inclined to rebel and break away from her/him so I question them more than any other ‘reliable’ source. When my rebelliousness fades I return to their ‘truth’, as one of the most reliable I’ve known. 2] Is the source a published Book: 2 points I know that anything in print, especially in this day and age, must be serious and a reliable source of truth, unless it contradicts my other sources. What is written is half-way to being dogma, unless one of the other sources is contradicted. 3] Is the source famous: 3 points I know that the more famous a source is the more ‘truth’ it is aware of. For example, Tom Cruise telling me that we are all alien colonists transplanted here is convincing, especially since it does not contradict the other sources. Anthony telling me that God exists is very convincing when one considers that he is a famous ex-atheist. No other consideration need apply. 4] Is the source telling me what I already believe and want to be true: 4 points I know that when someone tells me what I already believe I trust that source more. 5] Does the source tell me something that flatters me or makes me feel good: 5 points I know that when the source tells me something that satisfies my ego or placates my anxieties, I am inclined to believe it all the more. For example: when the source tells me that I do not really die but that I am eternal, I feel good, being told this and so I believe it. Damn all other sources to hell!!! 1-5 points - makes be positively skeptical. 5-10 points – makes me convinced 10-15 points – makes me unquestionably fanatical 15-20 points – I’ll hurt the man that contradicts my belief Thank you lightgigantic and Sciforums!!!!!!
What if you written a book on some topic and feel good a random opinion that you have on something totally else. In fact it feels just right. How many points?
Then you add the appropriate points that apply. Book 2 + makes you feel good 5 + I already believe it 4 = 11 points Definitely a reliable source of ‘truth’
If it makes you feel bad, no. Remember, it’s all about how you feel not what you think. Thinking is for egg-headed, nerds. Us macho, retards feel ourselves to truth, like women do. Thanks America.
Allright!!! I always have my PhD thesis and Dr title!!! i don't know, but to me it is almost as good as being a priest! A PhD must be more than 5 points.
Let’s see. A PhD means you have institutional validation and backing plus you can publish books more easily and become famous. Mommy and daddy definitely approve. It makes you feel good. You can talk about and learn what you’ve already been taught to be truth. Yeah…you are approaching godlike certainty.
God satisfies all 5 of my criteria. A total sum of 15 points. This makes me more than fanatical about believing in God.

Thanks. I owe a great deal of gratitude to all the retards on Sciforum, for it. I’ve learned a lot about thinking and how to judge.
Satyr: I'm not sure I can trust your system. Let's see: 1] Is the source my mommy/daddy or someone I like/love: 1 point You're not my daddy, so I can't trust your system on that basis. No points. 2] Is the source a published Book: 2 points You haven't published your system in a book. Does print on an internet forum count? Probably not. No points. 3] Is the source famous: 3 points As far as I know, you're not famous. Not as famous as Tom Cruise, anyway. If it came to a choice, I'd have to side with Tom (scary thought). No points. 4] Is the source telling me what I already believe and want to be true: 4 points Do I already want to believe in your system? 'fraid not. Sorry. No points. 5] Does the source tell me something that flatters me or makes me feel good: 5 points Would your system make me feel good if I applied it to determining truth? Probably it would. Ok, 5 points then. That's a grand total of 5 points = positively skeptical! By its own measure, your system doesn't work for me. I'll have to find my own system.
James R, Seems Satyr's system did work for you James, unless you consider yourself positively gullible (15 points). But it seems I scored a 0 myself according to the system. I guess I am too inquisitive.
Both of you think too much. Stop thinking, immediately, and start feeling. Trust your gut, as Colbert urges us to do, and see ‘truthiness’. The correct epistemology must be applied to make the ontology work. If you haven’t been trained in the epistemology the ontology will seem absurd. Lightgigantic taught me that.
Satyr's Existential Ponderings If lightgigantic’s brain could be found and reached, through that dense cranium, would the cow manure contained within it be potent enough to feed a dung beetle for a day or would it suffice for a week?
Satyr's Existential Ponderings If lightgigantic were to ever, hypothetically, become a civilization's greatest sage and philosopher would he inspire a civilization of: A] Down syndrome B] Americans C] Vegetables Or D] Headless eunuchs
