Because there are certain standards I have for people I know. I will not be friends (for long) with people that do not really fit my criteria. I am not the kind of guy that is friendly with with everyone and wants to be friends with everyone. And we all know this is true: you can pick your friends but you cannot pick your family. So with people outside my family, I would just ignore those that I do not want to be around. But with family, whether I like them or not... I have to "be friends" with them.
