Okay, this is kind of inspired by my "Worst Movie" thread. What's the trippiest song you've ever heard? You know, the kind that leave you feeling like you'd probably understand it a lot better if you were stoned off your ass? For me, it's "Ballad of the Hip Death Goddess" by Ultimate Spinach. It's a 60's psychedelic thing that (pardon my vintage phrasing) really blows my mind.
I can't remember the name of it offhand. Just a second while I look it up. Ah, yes. "Nod Scene", by Monster Magnet. Also, MM's "All Friends and Kingdom Come". But I live for trippy music: Screaming Trees, Floater, Monster Magnet ... I must mention The Seeds "900,000,000 People Daily All Making Love". Classic. And, of course, Pink Floyd's "Echoes" and "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict" are stoneriffic. The latter, in fact, almost demands drugs. One of my favorite trippy experiences ever, though, was listening to the Screaming Trees' "Smokerings" while on mushrooms. See (and hear) also, "Ivy". Few bands are better for trips than the Screaming Trees.
Good thread idea. Man, I remember Monster Magnet. That really brings me back. There was that awesome song of theirs, "Space lord, motha, motha." Loved that song. For me probably trippiest would be some of DJ Shadow's stuff. "Midnight in a Perfect World" or "Changeling Transmission." Some of NIN's obscure songs are trippy too, actually. Like for example from the album, "Further Down the Spiral," "At Heart of it All." Or from "The Downward Spiral," "A Warm Place," or "The Becoming." Man, I should get a bag of weed and listen to those songs again. And probably also, "The Dark Side of the Moon." Everybody tells me that CD rocks, but I listen to it, and it socks instead. Maybe a little herbal magic would do the trick.
"Box of Rain" by the Grateful Dead. One of the few songs written by bassist Phil Lesh. He is one trippy dude. ("Look out of any window...", on "American Beauty.")
Sticking to modern? A 1969 performance of Dark Star by the Grateful Dead. Medeski Martin and Wood's Nightmarchers or Is there Anbody Here That Loves My Jesus? Miles Davis' Spanish Jam. Obviously a ton of Floyd. And the creme-de-la-fucking-creme... Anything by Zakir Hussain! He's Indian and the best-ever tabla (gorgeous, small drum pair) player. Trippiest music in history. That or when mmw played onstage with Phish.
Eu nao hei ouvido ista cancao. But if it's the theme song from the movie, it's "Thus Spoke Zoroaster" by Richard Strauss and it's about 110 years old.
Anything by Xiouxie and the Banshees The B-52's Romeo Void's "I might Like you Better if we Slept Together." Wendy O. Williams and the Plasmatics playing anything. Atari Teenage Riot
Hey Baby...Jimi Hendrix: Hey baby where are you coming from? Well she looked at me and smiled And looked into space and said "I'm coming from the land of the new rising sun." Then I said "Hey baby where are you trying to go to?" Then she said "I'm going to Spin and spread around peace of mind and a whole lotta love to you and you Hey girl I'd like to come along Yes, I'd love to come along Would you like to come along? She asked me Yes take me along right now Hey baby, can I step into your world for a while? Yes you can, she said Come on back with me for a while We're gonna go across the Jupiter sand and see all you people one by one We gotta help your people out right now That's why I'm doing it all about Hey! Yeah, may I come along? May I come along? May I come along? Please take me
Hey, isn't that a Chinese group? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Xiou xie should mean something like "to express gratitude by resting."
Nah, that's one of the finest UK punk/post punk bands from the 70s up to 90s. Siouxsie is derived from the american indian tribe, banshee is a being of irish (celtic) mythology. http://www.vamp.org/Siouxsie/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siouxsie_&_the_Banshees Oh, and it appears that I too did spell it wrong (shame on the great fan of me): Siouxsie & the Banshees
Yeah, but you gotta admit, "Xiou Xie" looks Chinese. 400 million Chinese slamming and pogoing in Tienamen Square... Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
I think "Let forever be" by the Chemical has to rank up there. Especially when you see the video, its by Michael Gondry, who is pure genius. Also, there was some other techno song, "Open your mind" by like DJ Irene or something. Anyway, I heard it when I was fucked up on painkillers after I got my wisdom teeth out. It was totally trippy.
You misspelled that too. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! It's Tian An Men. "Sky Peace Door." Heavenly Peace Gate. We've started writing it as one word so people don't even notice the N and pronounce it the way you spelled it. I think it's better to transcribe Chinese syllables discretely. None of which explains the idiotic American trend of pronouncing Bei Jing like a French word. It really is Bei Jing, not Bei Zhing. Now that word "pogoing." Is that a new Oriental sport? Po Going?
