I'm on the hunt for the most glorious pieces of music I can find. The cheesier the better. Preferably metal but I'll give any genre a try.

The most glorious metal that I've found so far is by Turisas, whose promotional pictures will leave no doubt as to their style.

'Theme One' by Van der Graaf Generator is pretty cheesy in a glorious way. Anyone know where I can upload an MP3?

That crappy myspace thing lets visitors listen to your tunes. Turisas have one themselves, actually. I strongly advise clicking this link and listening to the song 'battlemetal' if you crave glory.

That link doesn't work for me - maybe it needs software that I haven't got. I've already got it anyway - maybe it'll work for Blue_UK?

I like Ambulance LTD. They remind me of the Beetles. They're rather Indie. But very lovable.

And the Arctic Monkeys are fun loving.

My favorite band is Incubus. What was the question?

The Ode to Joy as done by Kraftwerk. Inspiring and funny at the same time.
I can't seem to find the mp3 of it. I'll look for it on the site I found it.

I tried Van der Graaf. A bit too chilled out. I'm thinking more As Torches Rise by Turisas.

If you're talking about "glorious," you must be talking about the rich, lengthy, dynamic compositions of progressive rock's heyday. These are all pieces I believe deserve to be taken seriously, but if you like your music a little cheesy, you'll probably find enough of it in there to keep you happy. After all, it's still rock and roll.

"Rose Arcana" segue'd into "The Promise" by Arcadia
    "On Reflection" by Gentle Giant
    "Recycled" by Nektar
"Dream" segue'd into "Joey" by Pretty Things
    "The Fool" by Quicksilver
"Can You Hear Me" by Renaissance
    "Silently Falling" by Chris Squire
"In the Dead of Night" by U.K.
    "Yo Mama" by Frank Zappa

And of course, the entire "Dark Side of the Moon" album

Hmm... some interesting pieces. I have "Dark side of the moon", it's very good.

Perhaps I should change my wording from 'glorious' to 'cheesy' and 'triumphant'.

I long for the day movies will stop using classical and martial music in their production, its getting really really realy OLD, thats probably the problem facing Hollywood

Which movies are you thinking of? I can't say it's ever offended me - but then again I admire that sort of music.

Glorious, epic music = Nightwish. Listen to their song "Ghost Love Score." Amazing song (although anything by them is good). One of my favorite power metal groups.

Edit: I forgot to mention their song "Gethsemane." Very glorious indeed.

Movies use whichever type of music fits the mood. Epics tend to use the music you call "martial" because it evokes the spirit of marching armies and history in the making. Romantic movies use romantic music. Some of it is contemporary love songs, but much of it is mood music composed for the occasion (not "classical" music taken from the existing repertoire), and it has the instrumentation and modalities that we Westerners psychologically associate with romance. Westerns, war movies, action/adventure, each genre of movie has its associated genre of music. That's because the genres of music affect us psychologically in a way that augments the feeling of the movie.

There are plenty of movies made now that use contemporary rock and roll or hip-hop in their soundtracks. If they're not specifically about romance, they try to attract the contemporary audience with their generation's sound. Even mysteries, comedies, and action movies tend to have a lot of rock in the background.
