Under the strong pressure of the Israel lobby America was forced to squash the ports deal . The Influential Israel lobby used the excuse that seeing Dubai and UAE were part of the regional Israel boycott this deal should not go through as well as arguing the security from terrorists . The true fact is that if this port deal had of gone through Arab influence coupled with Saudi finance would of eclipsed the influence of the Jewish/Isreali lobby . That is what motivated the collapse of this deal self serving interests of a foreign power .

And what is the cost to the US economy ?
This means Billion$ moving into the Euro zone .

I disagree, of course. This deal was squashed by Republicans and Democrats concerned about security. But it doesn't really address the issue of security, since most ports are still owned by foriegn companies, and besides, foriegn companies have been buying huge sectors of US infrastructure all over the place. For instance, a Scottish company owns the main hydroelecric plant in Oregon.

Security could still be good no matter who owns the ports, but this main issue is being ignored. Few containers are being inspected or x-rayed. The cargo in airplanes isn't inspected. Our borders are still fairly easily crossed. Emergency response, as demonstrated in Katrina, is shameful.

Democrat Charles Schumer of New York, Republican Norm Coleman ,Senator Hillary Clinton, and Senator Robert Menéndez those names are the driving force behind getting this port deal slammed .All belong to what is termed Congress's Pro Israel lobby . Okay now read this , this is a list of money that the Israel lobby gives to each of these vociferous supporters of Israel :
That was for the year 2000 , did you see how many names were on there ?
No the deal was quashed because the influential Jewish/American bloc would of had its finanacial power to influence eclipsed by the Arab bloc . Its as simple as that .
How the Fuck , could Dubai ownership of these ports affect security when all customs and policing would still be under complete US control ? The fact is this was just a sale , a transfer of owners , the human infrastructure would of stayed American , nothing would of changed , this port deal did not come with rights of extra-territoriality .

Why would the arabs want ownership of these ports anyway?

  8. yeah, but thats all semantics. think about it, why would any of these people need any reason other than good old partisan politics to come out in opposition to this deal? hillary is probably going to attempt to run for president in 2008, so she is looking to oppose Bush on anything that even remotely smells of controversy in order to charge up her base. Schumer is a Bush basher, and also a jew, so theres no surprises there at all. As for Norm Coleman, lots of Republicans are coming out against Bush right now because midterm elections are coming up, and if they arent assured re-election because of demographics, then they are opposing the unpopular administration in order to distance themselves from their bad decisions. im not saying that the Israel lobby has nothing to do with it at all, i just think its one factor among a whole littany that is causing these people to do what they do, and its probably not significant enough to even be in the top five in terms of importance.

Bush is a lame duck, and the sale was unpopular among the people. The senators need to get re-elected.

Three of four Americans say they are following the story closely. Overall, they oppose the deal by a nearly 4-to-1 ratio, 66%-17%. [USA Today]

  10. because its a lucrative deal and the company owning the ports stands to make a good amount of money from them. in reality, the company attempting to buy the US ports is a company called Dubai Ports World and they own a lot of other ports. they were in actuality not buying US ports, but a British company that already controlled the ports.

Dubai being a major sea and air transit point has experience in that field so its is just natural that Dubai would gravitate in that particular business investment . Dubai is now the globes most strategic city port , it has taken over from Hong Kong and Singapore especially since Dubai clinched the P&O deal . Dubai has heavy foreign investment and the US has a major investment in Dubai , this investment generates the US a lot of money , so Dubai expected a reciprocal investment such as the 6 US ports . The down side now is that it will cost the US especially Boeing which had a $9.5 billion sale of aircraft cancelled in favour of Airbus .

  12. they are still buying aircraft from Boeing. the deal is now a mix between boeing and airbus.
