Do you know anyone who has attempted (successfully or not) to get a Referendum passed?
    How did they do it?
Did they just collect signatures in a bunch of notebooks or what?
How does the physical reality of the situation work?

What about the possibility of an online petition?
    Is that feasible?
Have you ever heard of such a thing?
Have you ever heard of one actually working?
Can you give me an example?

It's one thing to show a politician a notebook with X thousand signatures, but how exactly is the petition turned into a policy-setting referendum?

Is there such thing as a federal Referendum?

    How are signatures verified?
Let's say there are more than enough signatures for a referendum, but the majority of the politicians are against the measure, what's stopping them from simply ignoring it, or claiming signature fraud etc?

They do it in Oregon alot. I don't know all the rules, but you hire people to hang out in public places and ask for signatures. Then if you get enough, they check them for accuracy, and if it's still enough, it goes on the next ballot.
