Cool as hell. I thought the ending was amazing. I never knew bees could do that.

I wonder what the other bees thought of the first bee in their society that could do that? (Assuming they can think, of course.

what gets me is why don't they just bite and sting the wasp to death?

instead these bees roast the wasp alive

In japan, some hornets (about 30) eat a whole colony of imported european honey bees (about 30,000). The european bees can't kill the much larger and thicker-skinned hornets. Before the hornets arrived on the scene, though, they had had a scout mark the honey bee location with some scent, then the hornets flocked to it like seagulls.

The last half of the clip jumps to another variety of honey bee, a local japanese variety. They know that when the scout hornet gets there they must kill it or more will come. Somehow, in the past, they adapted to defeat the scouts. They can raise their body temperature to 117 F without dying. The hornets can only stand 115 F. So the honey bees swarm the scout in their hive and raise their body temp to 117 F and fry the scout. Freaking amazing.
